Americans Want Taxes Used For Ethical Stem Cell Research 76 Percent Oppose Cloning Human Embryos For Research
WASHINGTON (September 16, 2010)- As the U.S. Senate prepares to hold a hearing on human embryonic stem cell research (hESCR), a new public opinion poll shows that a plurality of Americans (47 percent) oppose federal funding of stem cell research that involves destroying human embryos, while only thirty-eight percent (38 percent) support such funding. The poll, conducted by ICR / International Communications Research, surveyed 1,006 adults September 8-14. Respect Life Program
|
Packet For 2010-11 Now Available To Order!
The 2010-11 Respect Life Program is now available in preparation for Respect Life Sunday, October 3. This year's theme is "The measure of love is to love without measure." The Respect Life flyer explores this theme with three vignettes of common situations calling for heroic love - a college student's unplanned pregnancy, an elderly loved one who needs assistance with feeding, and a baby diagnosed with a life-threatening disability.
Topics addressed in this year's Respect Life Program reflect the diversity of pro-life concerns:
- the death penalty and Divine Mercy
- end-of-life care
- infertility treatments in line with Church teaching
- sexual trafficking
- population control
- depression and suicide among youth
- the promise of pro-life youth
Articles are available as downloadable pamphlets and as bulletin inserts, on the website of the Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities here. In addition, the site contains downloadable versions of the poster, flyer, liturgy guide, program models, recommended resources, memorable pro-life quotations and artwork, in both English and Spanish.

Meet The Intern
| Alissa Gotta |
Alissa Gotta
is studying for a Masters in Theology and Bioethics at the John Paul II
Institute for the Studies of Marriage and Family in Washington, D.C. Originally from Ohio, she completed her
undergraduate studies at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Theology and
Catechetics. Alissa assists the Pro-Life Secretariat with project management,
writing, youth outreach and fundraising. She recently participated in a mission
trip to Haiti and will be leading another trip this December. She values her
internship experience for the exposure it has offered to the many vital areas
of pro-life work around the country, most importantly in the defense of the
unborn. "The problems that are caused by a broken vision of the human
person and devaluing the gift of life have led to many struggles for the family
and the wider Christian community. It is imperative that we reclaim and relearn
the beauty and depth of the person, beginning with our identity as children of
God." After graduation, Alissa hopes to continue her research in
bioethical issues while educating through teaching and writing.
