SCOLIOSIS - An Inside and Outside Approach
|
|
Why do people have scoliosis?
Scoliosis can be both functional or heredity.
Hereditary
scoliosis has to do with abnormal bone development
such as leg length differiation, while; medical
scoliosis
has to do with diseases of muscular system like
polio.
Both types of scoliosis create discomfort due to the
misalignment of the spine.
Movements Afoot is sponsoring unique
workshops
throughout the month of July about scoliosis for
clients and teachers with scoliosis
problems.
These workshops will provide you with a better
understanding of spinal
mechanics, which can help deepen your practice and
help you and your clients facilitate greater ease,
strength and range of motion of the entire body.
These events
are listed below and for more information,

Teacher Snapshot

Hometown: Philadelphia. PA
Childhood ambition: Ballet Dancer
First Pilates Class: June 2000
Most influential teacher: Lesley Powell and
Doris Pasteleur Hall
The Defining moment when you realized you
wanted to teach Pilates: When I moved to New
York and I needed an income to supplement my
dancing. I loved taking Pilates Classes and teaching
Ballet, so I combined my love for both.
Favorite Exercise and Why: I love doing
swan
on the chair. Spinal extension feels great to me, plus I
can work on my hamstrings, my weakest link.
Most Challenging Part of Your Pilates Practice:
Keeping my Humeral Bones in the socket
Person who has inspired you most: My
Boyfriend, He supports me and encourages me to
want more for myself.
Book you are currently reading: History of
Love
by Nicole Krauss
Secret Comfort Foods: French Fries
Cause you feel most passionate about:
Health. I am concerned with People's eating
habits and their lack of care for their bodies.
Your local retreat: Element Spa in Brooklyn.
They give a great mani/pedi.
An Unfinished Dream: To receive a College
