Joyce Eleanor, 2012 Campaign Chair
| | |
As long-time CEO of Community Transit, Joyce Eleanor is well connected to the most pressing issues facing Snohomish County: successful kids, financially stable families and healthy communities.
Joyce has selected the theme "Get on Board" for our 2012 campaign, which reflects her transportation background and emphasizes the need to expand United Way's funding base.
"We are going to put in place a plan that will allow our United Way to invest even more into our community. After three years of stability, we are looking ahead and setting a course for growth," says Joyce.

Campaign Starts with Record $570,000
The 2012 campaign is well underway, and several of our largest campaigns are wrapping up. Premera Blue Cross and Philips Healthcare have finished their campaigns, and Campbell's StockPot has just begun theirs.
Our research shows that CEO support and employee meetings are keys to success. Premera raised more than $570,000--a record--with strong support from CEO Gubby Barlow (winner of last year's Executive of the Year Award) and held almost three times the number of employee meetings than last year.
Way to go Premera!

Spirit of Snohomish County Breakfast
Join us on Thursday, September 6 as we continue our tradition of recognizing individuals and organizations who are truly helping to improve people's lives in Snohomish County. Kathy LeMay will keynote the event. Her book, The Generosity Plan, demonstrates how our time, treasure and talents can make a world of difference. By building and acting on a generosity plan, each one of us can create change simply by doing what we can, where we are, with what we have.
We'll be tweeting about the Spirit of Snohomish County Breakfast using #uwscspirit12. |
Register for Days of Caring: Sept. 21-22
Last year, 1,200 volunteers from 103 different organizations spent a total of 6,500 hours on 73 individual projects helping 34 agencies for a total two-day economic impact of $138,840. That's a lot of caring!
Registration is now open for Days of Caring 2012. Put together a team or register as an individual and sign up for a project. Agencies can also register their projects online, by calling The Volunteer Center at 425.374.5534 or by faxing their project information to United Way at 425.374.5555.
Once you sign up or register your agency's project, tweet about it using the hashtag #uwscdoc12. |
On June 6, over 200 business and community leaders welcomed officers and sailors from USS NIMITZ to our community.
Thanks to generous support from several sponsors--particularly The Boeing Company and the Pinnacle Family of Companies/USO Puget Sound Area--we used the proceeds from the event to make a $6,000 contribution to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
We organized the event in conjunction with Economic Alliance Snohomish County.

Supporting English Language Learners
English classes are the first step toward cultural understanding and economic success. Understanding English is essential for those seeking employment and for parents wanting a more active role in their children's school lives. So far, we have distributed over $9,000 in grants through our endowment and have held training sessions for volunteer teachers.
