Volunteering creates a better community. According to Youth United volunteer Nanty Carlson, 17, it also creates good karma.

"It's easy for teenagers to be apathetic," she says. "Volunteering gives you a chance to learn more about yourself. It's about digging deeper to find insight and connections to a larger world."

  • Association of Manufactured Homeowners, Mobile Home Zoning Implementation Project

Run by an all-volunteer organization of manufactured homeowners, this project was awarded $4,500 to support advocacy to protect manufactured homeowner communities in Marysville and Lynnwood.

  • Latino Education and Training Institute, Advanced English for Professionals

The institute received $4,080 to provide intensive English training to immigrants with professional backgrounds and education so they can find better-paying jobs.
