From dollars to difference: meet Juan

With four children, Juan and Clara Gutierrez stretch Juan's paycheck as a truck driver as far as possible.  United Way's help with filing their income tax return goes a long way.
 
"I trust United Way to do the best for me," said Juan.
 

Tax volunteers helped Juan claim the earned income credit, a refund worth several thousand dollars. This year, $2,000 went right into savings bonds for Geraldo, 13, Nancy, 12, David, 6, and Diego, 5.

United Way of Snohomish County: Family Fun Fair

Picnic and play at April 10 Family Fun Fair
 

Bring the kids to a free Family Fun Fair on Saturday, April 10 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Forest Park. The event will feature activity booths, stage entertainment and educational programs for young children. Carpooling is encouraged. Sponsored by United Way of Snohomish County, Snohomish County Association for the Education of Young Children and Everett Parks and Recreation.

United Way of Snohomish County: 2009 President's Award Winners

United Way takes care of basics at Community Caring Celebration

Organizations and companies running 2009 campaigns were honored at United Way's Community Caring Celebration March 10. The President's Award went to two companies that ran the year's best campaigns and two executives were honored with the Chair Challenge Award for campaign leadership. Matt Reinhard, 2009 Campaign Chair, also "passed the buck" to 2010 Chair Kim Buike.

United Way of Snohomish County: Spirit of Snohomish County AwardsUnited Way annually recognizes organizations and individuals that are advancing the common good with Spirit of Snohomish County Awards. We want your nominations for an adult, youth and/or company who is actively volunteering and inspiring others to serve. Winners will be honored at the Spirit of Snohomish County Breakfast on Wednesday, Sept. 8.

 

Nomination forms are due Friday, June 11, and can be found at uwsc.org/spiritnominate.php.

 
 
Letter Carriers Food Drive strives to "stamp out hunger"

Take part in the largest food drive in the U.S. on Saturday, May 8. Letter carriers will collect non-perishable donations as they deliver mail. This year's goal is the one billion-pound mark for food donations.Volunteers are needed to help unload. Contact Suzanne Moreau at 425.252.1112 or suzanne.moreau@pslaonline.org to volunteer.

 
United Way wins national Tocqueville honor

United Way of Snohomish County: Tocqueville SocietyUnited Way of Snohomish County has earned national recognition and a 2010 Fleur-de-Lis award from United Way Worldwide for its work with local Tocqueville Society members (those who give $10,000 or more annually). Congratulations to 2009 Tocqueville Society chair Lisa Clarke and all Tocqueville members for making this possible.

 

 
Imagination Library releases parent survey results

Since 2008, United Way, in partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library sent has sent a free book monthly to more than 1,000 children under the age of five in the Lake Stevens School District. Read what parents in the program say.
