Project Homeless Connect

More than 425 homeless people were connected to community services at the inaugural Project Homeless Connect event held in Snohomish County June 30. People received immediate access to services - not simply referrals to a labyrinth of agencies that can be difficult to navigate. Organizers from the Homeless Policy Taskforce, including United Way, members from local government, human services and other community volunteers, hosted the event at Cascade High School.

United Way of Snohomish County: Project Homeless Connect

Project Homeless Connect relied on 125 volunteers and more than 100 service providers from 40 different agencies. Everett Transit provided free transportation. Highlights included:
  • The Department of Social & Health Services processed at least 108 applications for benefits.
  • A volunteer dental team saw 23 patients and performed cleanings, extractions and other dental procedures.
  • Forty-five pets received vaccinations, check-ups, flea treatments and nail trims.
  • Eighty-eight families received medical services and/or health screenings.
LIVE UNITED Story
United Way of Snohomish County: LIVE UNITEDSearch: Share with the world

Grab the closest camera and make a short video explaining how you're working to improve the education, income and health of people where you live. Submit your video to the LIVE UNITED Story Search and you could be featured in United Way's 2010 national ad campaign.
  1. Record your story in two minutes or less of video.
  2. Upload the video before Sept. 30 to www.liveunited.tv/united.
  3. Get your friends to vote for your story.

You can use a camcorder, cell phone, digital camera or anything that records video. Stories will be judged on substance, not production quality, so don't sweat the details.

Advance the common good well into the future

Say the word endowment and most people think of well-established families making large gifts to hospitals or universities. The fact is, any non-profit can benefit and a gift of any size is important. Talk to your attorney, financial planner or CPA to determine the best philanthropic strategy for you. Talk to Karen Crowley at 425.374.5503 or karen.crowley@uwsc.org for more about the many options of giving to your community through United Way.

Time to say thanks

The annual report is going to press, and we want to be sure to thank you. Do you give more than $500 a year to United Way? Or, have you given to United Way - in any community - for 10 years or more? We'd like to applaud you! Please let us know so we can recognize you for your outstanding support and generosity. Contact Deborah Squires at deborah.squires@uwsc.org or 425.374.5501.
