Fundraising video by Nashville Star finalist wins national award

United Way of Snohomish County: Lt. Cmdr. Bill PartingtonA music video by Nashville Star contestant Tommy Stanley was one creative way the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) of North Puget Sound raised more than $602,000 for charity. It also earned them national recognition and a 2008 CFC Innovation Award.

CFC Chair Lt. Cmdr. Bill Partington of the U.S. Navy (right) and United Way's Senior Combined Campaign Manager, Steve Lye, will accept the award this week in Washington D.C. This is the first Innovation Award the North Puget Sound CFC has been presented.

The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. Pledges made by Federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season support non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world. The Combined Federal Campaign of North Puget Sound is managed by United Way of Snohomish County.

Nomination deadline for 2009 Spirit of Snohomish County Awards is Friday

Each year, United Way recognizes organizations and individuals that are creating opportunities for a better life for all with the Spirit of Snohomish County Awards. The prestigious Spirit Award will be presented to those who demonstrate a deep commitment to advancing the common good through volunteering. Who do you know that is reaching out a hand to one and influencing the condition of all?

United Way is seeking nominations for an adult, youth and/or company who is actively volunteering, creating a culture of community involvement and inspiring others to serve. Winners will be honored at the Spirit of Snohomish County Breakfast Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Tulalip Resort Casino.

Nomination forms may be found at uwsc.org. Submit your nominations online or download the forms and fax or email them by this Friday, June 26 to 425.374.5555 or events@uwsc.org.

Become a spirited Table Captain

We are looking for table captains to host a table at the Spirit of Snohomish County Breakfast for 10 guests at $25 each. Table captains are critical to the success of the Spirit Breakfast and to sharing United Way's story and mission. Please contact Stacy Vance at stacy.vance@uwsc.org or 425.374.5519 if you or someone you know is willing to be a table captain. Corporate table sponsorships are also available.

You won't want to miss this year's Spirit Breakfast, featuring dynamic keynote speaker Bill Toliver. As executive director of The Matale Line, a full-service branding and communications agency dedicated to social change, Toliver has helped a number of international nonprofits and foundations-from The U.S. Fund for UNICEF to The Oprah Winfrey foundations-reframe their approach to strategic decision-making and communications. For more information, please call 425.374.5570.
