Julian Bond keynotes Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Julian Bond, Chairman of the NAACP, is the speaker for the county's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
The festivities begin at 7 a.m. with the annual Diversity Breakfast at the downtown Everett Holiday Inn, 3105 Pine St. "Prodigies for Peace" School Essay Award winners will be announced and Bond will speak briefly. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a community rally and march through downtown Everett. The march begins at the Snohomish County Plaza, 3000 Wall St., and ends at the Comcast Arena at Everett Events Center.
Marchers will have priority seating to hear Julian Bond at the Community Celebration that begins at noon. The master of ceremonies will be Gordon McHenry of The Boeing Company, and the program will also feature the Mountlake Terrace High School group Contagious Movement and the Everett Police Honor Guard.
The MLK Community Celebration recognizes the life and work of Dr. King and is held each January to honor his memory while celebrating Snohomish County's ethnically and culturally diverse community. It is sponsored by the City of Everett, Snohomish County, the YMCA and United Way.

Employers invited to summit on affordable homeownership for employees
Workforce housing benefits lead to increased recruiting abilities, higher employee retention and increased employee morale. Learn how at the Workforce Housing Summit on Jan. 15, 2008, at the Lynnwood Convention Center. The Washington State Nonprofit Conference
For the past 13 years this one-day conference has been the foremost gathering of nonprofit community leaders, supporters, and board members exploring ways to enhance the vitality of the nonprofit sector.
On April 9, 2008, the conference will again convene in Bellevue, Wash., with more than 500 nonprofit and community leaders representing a wide variety of organizations and positions from across the state.
