Angus July

Angus Cross Editor.

  Editorial by Angus Cross

It has long been my goal to be able to communicate  monthly with 2,200 alumni via the newsletter. That number would translate into about 50% being members of the association. this number would be adequate to financially support the web site and newsletter. There are many enhancements I would like to add but cannot due to budgetary restraints. At present we reach approximately 1,300 alumni with just over 500 association members.

In my opinion, the same numbers (2,200 )  also equal the number of  invitations that must be sent and received in order to have another successful reunion. Posters displayed around St. Lambert, or local media blurbs are insufficient because 60% of alumni don't reside in La Belle Province.

I have received several emails from non-members of the association suggesting that membership should be free. Being a part of the Chambly alumni community is free but association membership must have a modest annual membership fee. There is no way to avoid this because there are expenses that must be covered.

I also have had people tell us that they use FaceBook to keep in touch with their classmates and that www.chamblycounty.com serves no useful purpose. Social networks like FaceBook are useful and we will be making more use of some of it's programs in future. I am concerned however about an individual's security on FaceBook. There are also many other things about the FaceBook network that do not appeal to me (photo quality, asking people you don't know to be your FaceBook Friend, etc.)

I would like to know how many of our members are on FaceBook and ask that you

  Take our FaceBook Poll

Finally, I do need your help in finding missing alumni and ask that you provide details such as name/city/province. and email address of  your spouse, sibling, children, parent(s), grandparent(s) who went to St. Lambert High, CCHS, or Chambly Academy.

You may either  email me or ask your relations to go to www.chamblycounty.com and "click" on the blue box that states "Join our Mailing List - Join Now"

Alumni emails & notes to the Editor

Thanks for the July Alumni Newsletter. I actually could bring it up & read it!! I'm sooo new at this "computer" business & am delighted when I learn something new & actually "download" it.(Is that the correct terminology?)
It was very interesting to read the survey results. I'd like to add:Thank you so much for all your hard work;I appreciate what you are doing on behalf of all of us.
 Inge.Vibe (Rasmussen) C'53

As always, my warmest greetings to you and all the others involved in our Alumini Association. You all do such a wonderful job keeping us informed about the School and keeping people in touch with each other. It probably never gets said enough by all of us, but you and the others have our sincere thanks and congratulations for a job well done. It goes without saying that all this takes a tremendous amount of time and effort from you and so many others - it is much appreciated by all of us. I have updated my Profile on the Web site, and hope that it's a valuable tool for those who may wish to contact me. As I mentioned there, I believe in the power of networking with others and helping other people as much as I can. Or to put this another way, it's the "Pay it Forward" concept.
Hope you and everyone else reading this has a wonderful summer. So long from Hamilton.
 - Greg Brown C'74

The newsletter wass excellent as always!  Bravo. I really liked your Editorial last month. It's 'On-the-mark'.

With 6 more 'callimg days' left to go until I've completed the list, I feel that those who have ignored your emails and a call, should be removed from your 'active' list and archived instead. What do you think about that suggestion? - Peter Payan C'59

Editor's Note: Peter has done an outstanding job in calling approximately 1,000 alumni since April. His task was to reestablish contact with alumni and ask them to get more involved. It is my beleif that no one should be removed from any listing. Everyone has the option to remove themselves by "clicking" unsubscribe which appears in every single email we have ever sent.

Don Nyveen's (C'57) wife Marion has written saying "Don hasn't been able to Nyveen respond to your e-mails as he has had a stroke and has been ill since a year ago June."

I am sure Don would enjoy receiving 'hello's' and other salutations from all his former  friends and  Classmates, so if you would like to write Don but do not have his email address, here it is: Don Nyveen E-mail don@coralwave.com

Thanks Angus for all your efforts. If not for yourself and a few other dedicated alum there would be no Assoc. I had a split high school time between Sir Winston Churchill High School in Vancouver B.C. and CCHS, and I must tell you there is no alum assoc from the prior school. And yet most of our fondest memories and friendships are born from the time spent in school. It tends to leave one both happy and sad. Happy to have had those relationships and sad that people brush those memories off like loose lint on your jacket. I for one have thoroughly enjoyed my association with the alum. Unfortunately the economy has not allowed me to maintain my membership currently. A situation I hope to remedy in the immediate future. This note is just to let you and the rest of the alum. assoc. know that you are appreciated............Thanks!  - Peter Stewart class of '71

Veronica Lekim

Missing Veronica Lekim C'80

We suspect this woman to be hiding out in Brossard, QC under the name Veronique Lekim, anyone knowing her email address is asked to contact Angus so she can join her classmates on the 1980 Class page.

Who's Who

Many alumni have gone on to lead prominent lives and contribute, in many ways, to Canadian and global society. The Alumni Association wishes to recognize these outstanding people and their achievements.

There's a bit of CCHS in almost every PC microprocessor. If you used an x86 PC between 1995 and 2010, it undoubtedly contained some of the inventions of these 2 uber-techie alumni.

Home Exchanges

You may recall that last Fall there was some dialogue about home exchanges on our web site. Joanne and I are considering doing a 2 month  exchange next August (2012) with a couple in Yeppoon, Queensland, Australia.

Vacation Rental By Owners

VRBO is another site I recommend for those of you seeking an alternative vacation experience. Joanne and I have booked a villa in Portugal's Algarve region for March of 2012 that was very reasonable.

 Survey Says!

In our July Survey of Alumni Email Habits we found that 31.2% of alumni DO NOT check their Junk Mail or Spam Folder to see if any messages were placed there incorrectly.

We suggest you check this at least weekly and DELETE unwanted messages.
