Recently we have had reports from members that they have not received their copy of Alumni Connection. It seems that ISPs (Internet Service Providers) such as Sympatico and others have been becoming very picky about mass emails. They have been designating more and more as SPAM, even when the emails were permission based.

To combat this practice we have switched to a Confirmed - Opt in system.

Confirmed opt in requires all contacts to respond to an email confirmation request before he or she can be added to an email list. "Confirming" a new customer is strongly recommended within the email marketing industry and is fast becoming a widely accepted practice in the general public. Today more and more people are expecting to receive some type of confirmation email and feel that the process of confirming their interest enhances the credibility and reputation of the sender.

If you are reading this edition of Alumni Connection it means you are confirmed. Unfortunately there are over 1,000 alumni who have not confirmed and are unable to receive our emails. Hopefully this situation can be rectified in relatively short order.

The main challenge has always been to connect with as many alumni as possible. To do this and provide a safe, secure environment has proven extremely frustrating and difficult due to the wide variance of internet capabilities of our school mates.

Thanks to the efforts of Peter Payan C'59, an association director, for his assistance in calling over 300 Lost Contacts. Through his efforts many alumni have been brought back into our on-line group.

D'ont forget.... Father's Day is this Sunday!

Alumni emails & notes to the Editor

I so enjoy and look forward to receiving the Alumni Connection.  There is always someone or something that I can remember when reading through the articles.  Seeing the photo the Combines Cheerleaders brings back memories and I believe that Linda Cassidy(Toronto) is "E" and I believe that Bev Harris Jacoby(Calgary) is "S".  I will squint my eyes some more and see I can remember others.  Keep up the good work as I really appreciate the efforts of you and Warren on keeping us all together.  I have attended all the Reunions and had a fantastic time. - Bev Jacoby (Harris) C'58

I managed to track down Geza Maklary (class of 1960) by getting his son in law through Canada 411. Unfortunately Geza is in the hospital with cancer and the son in law said that he is not expected to live more than a few months.
I forgot that he  would be in his late 70's as Geza had worked for the railway and quit to come back to school. - Al Thomson C'60

You do a great job of the newsletter and keeping us all posted on the latest happenings.
I'm getting more used to the computer but still don't know how to download pictures from the camera to send on to people.  (of course my kids and some of the grandchildren do)
What does that say about me?  I guess I have to spend more time on the computer instead of curling and skiing etc!!!
However, what I noticed in the May newsletter is that the photogragher for the Preville scenes was Bruce Fields.  He took our engagement photo in 1966 and my MGH reunion pictures for many years and did as well at my 45th reunion last May in Montreal.
Hopefully I will get back to St. Lambert for a reunion in the future.  I haven't seen the 'cute guy from next door' since Curzon Street!!!!
I still keep in touch with Carol Bradley who is living in Australia since 1966 and Gillian Marshall who is in Newmarket, ON
Sometime ago I had asked you if you knew anything about the whereabouts of John Lord.  I remember him from CCHS.  I have noticed on the news that there is a Ross Lord reporting from the maritimes and wondered if he was any relation to John.  Any idea?
Hope to hear from you. - Carolyn Armitage (Scott) C'61

Don Watt - In 1957 the Centennial year of St.Lambert, as part of the celebrations Pee Wee all- star hockey team was formed and it was a very big deal in town. Don ws the head coach

of the team and I was a member of the team. He had a great influence on me and on
others on the team and I'd like to write to his wife or post some thoughts about Don..
Andy Edwards C'62

Don Watt - While I did not know him, I thought I'd pass along that Don Watt was my father's cousin (his mother and my grandfather were siblings).  He was the older brother of Doreen Watt, who married Johnnie Holmes, another well known St. Lambert lad,  I did know them and together they had five children.  Johnnie died a number of years ago.  Carol.Linn (Bentley C'55

Whatever people may say, Angus, rest assured that there are many of us who look forward to, and thoroughly enjoy each and every newsletter. Your efforts in putting it together are very much appreciated.

Re the Combines photo, I imagine my sister dale will know them all, but I think that "C" is Barbara Duhan, "M" is Shirley Strange, "B" is Barbara  Letts, "I" is Marsha Watson, and "N" is Jocelyn Kerr - Don Morrison C'53

New Rec Center
Since it was first built in the 1960s, the recreation centre has undergone few changes, yet it has grown increasingly popular over the years. It is now vital that it be rebuilt so that it can once again become a truly useful facility serving all Lambertans.

This rebuilt sports, recreation, and cultural hub will enhance the exceptional site of Lespérance Park. The City of Saint-Lambert hopes that the new recreation centre will become a community meeting place for citizens of all ages, and will encourage the practice of activities that contribute to a healthy and active lifestyle.
