In an effort to increase the readership of Alumni Connection we are again sending this edition out to all alumni in our database.

We have determined that there are two main reasons for a slight decrease in our "opens ratio" (ie. emails sent to emails opened.)

The primary reason is not being notified of email address changes. If you are making a change please tell us about it.

The secondary reason concerns spam. Depending on how tightly

choked you have your email program to avoid receiving unwanted emails may cause our newsletters to end up in your Junk mail folder.

The cure is to add angus@hfx.eastlink.ca to your address book so we'll be sure to land in your inbox!

In response to an email I sent to a 1982 alum asking "Have you considered joining the association?" I received the following:

"I just don`t think this is for me but thank you very much for your time and effort."

I replied "Thanks for the email. I am somewhat surprised by your comments. I noticed that you live in St. Lambert. Do you have children that go to Chambly Academy or will go there in the future?  Our members from across Canada, the USA, and around the world support the school, and the community. Over the last six years we have funded the school in excess of $30,000.00  Living in the community I would expect you would also like to assist."

I am still waiting for a reply.  Anyway that's what I think. - Angus

This has been a fairly busy time uploading individual alumni photos to all Class Lists, going from 1938 up to the present  - more than 70-years, and we are quickly running out of photos, and now ask you to please send us one by either mail, email or 'uploading' directly.

Sending photos by email is definitely the best way, as this allows them to be edited to fit uniformly, and within the allotted spaces within each Class List

CHECK THE CLASS LISTS to see what we have by your name

Add your Profile/Bio     If we don't have a photo of you, please send us one.

You're doing a wonderful job keeping us connected with old classmates and teachers and up-dating us on CCHS and other St. Lambert news. - Brita Housez  C''61

CCHS Wannabe

On April 22nd we received an email from Joe Hayston C'72

Robert Ursulak

Robert Ursulak

CCHS wannabe

I don't mean to bother you about this but on the CCHS site for the class of 1972, someone else (Robert Ursulak - my smart ass Catholic friend) posed as me.

 - Joe Hayston

Wanting to know more I emailed him back asking for an explanation - Angus

Here's the quick story.  I went to grade school with Robert (grades 1 - 7) at St. Francis of Assisi so yes, we are Catholic boys. We went on to attend Macdonald Cartier Memorial High (the very first year it opened) in grade 8 but it was a ZOO and I was failing.  My parents yanked me out - pledged their allegiance to the Protestant system (i.e. switched over their school taxes) and sent me to CCHS where I continued through to the end of high school with very good marks.  I knew many people from hockey so I fit in.

Robert continued with Macdonald Cartier but had so many friends in CCHS (i.e. Gerry Stefanatos, Glenn Sutherland, Don MacIver etc..etc..) that he skipped school (i.e. Macdonald Cartier) and just decided on his own to start attending CCHS classes. He actually did that for a month and the teachers somehow didn't get it figured out. (??)

Robert went to the reunion last year (since he knows so many people) but I wasn't able to make it.  So, he decided to pose as me in class pictures!!!!  That's the story. - Joe

Lost Contacts & Bozos

We have lost contact with hundreds of alumni since 2005 due to unnotified email changes. A major effort is underway to find these Lost Contacts. Volunteers are needed to make local telephone calls in their local area. If you are willing to assist please contact  Angus Cross

Every time I type "Opted out - not interested"   BozoBozoBozo
in a class list I think,  "What a Bozo".
Maybe I should insert this pic instead.

What do you think? Could I get away with that?

I want to thank you for the stellar job you are doing on behalf of the CCHS alumni.  I imagine at times it gets hectic and sometimes frustrating.  We all know that remuneration (i.e., NIL) is not your reward!  I can feel for you about the "Bozzo" designation, but discretion being the better part of valour, I personally would caution against the temptation of this approach.  My main reason is that it has the potential to alienate someone who might find themselves in different circumstances or a different frame of mind down the road.  I think your website has the potential to unify and re-unite the alumni especially as many hit retirement.

Alumni Association Board of Directors update:

At the last Board meeting held on May 3rd. the board agreed to donate the sum of $2,000.00 to the School Lighting Fund. Funds will be used to purchase increased stage lighting for the "Cafetorium"  This venue is being utilized more and more for productions by student, community, and the alumni association.

Discussions were commenced by the board on the feasibility of holding a 4th. all Year Reunion in 2015.

Directors also agreed on continuation of making calls to Lost Contacts in order to bolster association contact and hopefully membership.

This year the association will again bestow a modest bursary to 6 deserving Chambly Academy graduating students. This plan introduced by the 1995 Reunion Committee is now in its 15 year. This year's recipients will be introduced in mid-June.

A representative from British Columbia is urgently required to the serve on the board as director-representative.

A second director-representative from Ontario is also required to serve the needs of alumni  from the province.

There is also a director at large from Quebec required.

If interested or to request more information please contact

  Harvey Carter , Secretary.
