Chambly County High School & Chambly Academy Alumni Association Association des anciens étudiants de l'école secondaire Chambly County et Chambly Academy
|
Editorial by Angus Cross |
Just recently I asked an alum to consider joining the association and support our efforts. The reply I received was, " I don't expect to attend any reunions so I can't justify the cost of joining."
WE HAVE REUNIONS EVERY DAY AT
www.chamblycounty.com
Readership of Alumni Connection had started to trend downwards in recent months. To combat this we have opened up our newsletter to all alumni. Lost contacts due to not being advised of email address changes, people not renewing their membership in the alumni association, and a bit of apathy are all contributing factors. Faced with rising production costs of the newsletter and website, and declining revenues we have been given a wake up call to provide a better service.
Over the last few months we have made radical improvements to the site. We hope the changes meet with your approval and that we can count on your support by: JOINING or RENEWING your MEMBERSHIP

Wonderful website and great photos. I was surprised to see the "Home Hospital" where my Mom gave birth to me on October 24th /42. October 24th was also her birth date. We actually were born at the same time on our mutual birthday. It was always a great celebration for us.

I was going through the pictures of the 2010 reunion and I only recongnized one familiar face and that was Harvey Carter. He probably wouldn't remember me because I think he was even ahead of my sister. Makes me feel kind of old! (ha), It looks like CCHS has changed quite a bit. I must stop in and have a tour the next time I'm on my way to Ottawa - my daughter teaches phys. ed. and science/math - grade 12 there. She's quite a bit like her grandfacther (strict, old fashioned teacher) but as her grandfather did, she also gets great satisfaction out of daily life with her students.

Well, once again you guys have gone "above and beyond"!
Just spent some time reviewing all the new pictures and
digging memories out of the old brain pan. Sad to see how many
of those folks we knew as friends who have gone to their "great reward",
but remembering all the nice times took the edge off.
You guys are amazing, and your work is very much appreciated.

I find that as I get older my interest in the school and in St. Lambert has declined - to the point where I see no reason why I should remain as a member of the Association. I guess that puts me in the "apathetic" category because I just don't care anymore.
Even though I no longer wish to remain as a member, I do wish you and the entire Association the very best. I may revisit all this in the future, but at this time I will withdraw and not renew my membership.

Keeping the Connection
In October 2010, Stephen Campbell C'72, Cathy Smith C'74, Pete Thibaudeau C'79, and Barb Bissonnette (Hill) C'74 met for dinner at Kaps to celebrate the October birthdays in the group. It was a lot of fun, and there were so many ties that we had never talked about -- it was amazing. Family similarities, favourite vacation spots, such great conversation.

Lost Contacts & Bozos |
We have lost contact with hundreds of alumni since 2005 due to unnotified email changes. A major effort is underway to find these Lost Contacts. Volunteers are needed to make local telephone calls in their local area. If you are willing to assist please contact Angus Cross
Every time I type "Opted out - not interested"
in a class list I think, "What a Bozo".
Maybe I should insert this pic instead.
What do you think? Could I get away with that?

Chambly Academy has new website |
Chambly Academy's new website "Click" here

Picture taken at the recent Chambly Academy Fashion Show created a lot of controversy and quite a few letters to the editor.
The School holds two dress rehearsals prior to the actual show and all the costumes are approved by a committee, which includes several parents, before they are shown to the public. The costume in question was not part of the rehearsal and had not been seen by or approved by anyone on the committee. The student modeling the outfit did this on her own on the night of the show.
Over 400 outfits were modeled and dozens and dozens of pictures taken by the Journal. Of course they decided to go with the most sensational photo for the front page. They (the Journal) took some heat for using this picture when so many others, more representative of the overall show, were available but, can you really blame them - it was a great picture.
The student involved has written a letter of apology to the Taylor family who are a major sponsor of the show and, according to Mike Languay, she is extremely embarrassed by all the fall out this has created.
Personally I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion and will quickly be forgotten.

Photo of the Month

Shot of the new sports complex being built on L'Esperance just west of the swimming pool. The old youth centre/community centre which we used to call the "Pit" was demolished and this new facility will take its place and do so much more.
Construction started in the fall of 2010 and is still going on, months behind schedule and by some estimates more than $3 million over budget. Part of the funding is coming from the old federal stimulus program however, that contribution may be eaten up by the cost overruns. Doesn't that sound just too typical.
Anyway, the new building will have offices for the recreation department, a new gymnasium and other facilities. It will also connect the swimming pool with the hockey arena and the soccer field behind the arena will become a parking lot.
