Once again, a great newsletter! In each issue I find something that
prompts me to say "I remember that..."
The photography is always interesting and always sends me off
to the archives for more viewing. This time I reviewed the Expo 67
collection. I was part of the team of many folks who built exhibits
for the IBM displays. I well remember the struggle to get communications
links working in time for the "big day". In these days of instant high speed
connections it seems like ages ago that we rejoiced when we established
a 150 baud reliable link between a main frame and a terminal 10 miles away!
Congratulations once more on a fine publication!
Keith Harvey C'55, VA3KRV, Campbellford, ON
You've done it again....bringing us lots of news and views!
Bravo for all your hard work and efforts.
Peter Payan C'59, Montreal, QC
I would like to join the chorus of praise that I read in the newsletter that I received today. Anyone that has not tried writing or composing can not actually sympathize. Web page creation is in an even higher energy field than that...it's practically in another universe. We probably are all guilty of taking this service for granted and even go as far as to think that we deserve this gift that comes to us in or inbox every month. The perpetual evolution of the site is exemplary and yet humbling at the same time. Who in the Class of 1960 would have imagined themselves plucking the intricate strings of this particular instrument? The resulting music is a symphony of reflection and achievement that falls easily around our respective ears. We will always be in the debt of everyone who selflessly contribute to the continued success of this association. Bravo Team!!!!!!!
On an entirely different note, I have remained in touch with a former classmate named Michael Fredrick Harding. He was in my class of 1972 and is now partnered with another expatriate CCHS graduate Barbara Wyatt. They are presently living in Campbell River, British Columbia. Michael has just successfully had one of his novels printed and should be arriving hopefully in the next six to eight weeks. I had noticed that in the January newsletter that you promoted a novel by Susan Calder. Forgive me for shamelessly promoting Michael's upcoming printing but when he has copy in hand might you be interested in adding his work to a future newsletter? I am not usually this forward but Mike and I go back a long way and I could not resist the impulsive urge to ask the question. No matter what the result of all of this is I remain the Alumni Association's biggest fan and I eagerly look forward to your letter every month.
Stephen Campbell, C'72, St. Bruno de Montarville, QC
I have enjoyed viewing the photos of buildings, parks and scenes of St. Lambert. It is amazing how a picture can instantly raise memories from 50 years ago; the synapses in the brain are still strong, evidence that the sense of place was so important during our early years. I was saddened to read about the passing of our former Mayor Robert Smiley. My family lived across the street (at 282 Logan) from the Smileys, and he often paused to talk with me. Years later, he offered me a summer job at his chemical company, H.L. Blachford in Montreal, which was invaluable in enabling me to continue my studies at McGill, where Mayor Smiley had also graduated. He was a real gentleman with a remarkable commitment to community service. Robert Wrigley, C , Winnipeg, MB |
