Members Edition -January 2010  # 66
Editorial by Angus Cross

 Angus July

Here we go again. Another new year filled with challenges, rewards, disappointments, and nostalgia. Although I left St. Lambert over 50 years ago, somedays it seems like only yesterday. It has now been 8 years and 2 reunions since I started my attempt to reconnect with my old schoolmates and long lost friends from CCHS and St. Lambert. Each month we seem to find a few new members that join our community, unfortunately we also lose a few due to death or waning interest.

I really don't know what it will take to find missing alumni and also to convince non-members to join the alumni association. If you have any suggestions they would be most welcome. There is an answer and perhaps, with help, we may finally stumble upon it. Keep the faith.

Alumni emails & notes to the Editor

Thanks for publishing the note about the passing of Roberta Joyal.
It still brought tears to my eyes although I wrote the note myself-  and
hadn't seen her in 47 years.  Funny how some people have an impact that
just doesn't end. - Ari Dale C'64 - Kibbutz Almog, Israel

My wife Susan Calder has written a mystery novel, Deadly Fall.  It is now available for pre-ordering on-line but will only be available in stores and for delivery in mid-March.  We are really excited that with all her work over many years, the first book in the series is now here! - Will Arnold C'70 - Calgary, AB

Variety Show Report
The Alumni Association sponsored a Christmas Variety Show on

December 11th. 2010 at Chambly Academy in St. Lambert

Although attendance was not up to expectations, those that did attend were enthusiastic, and appreciative. We expect that this event will be become an annual affair.

Xmas Show 2010

Audience Comments:

We enjoyed the show and had a great time.  It was too bad that there were not more people there as they missed a lot of fun.  Of course being a "golden oldie" I really loved the band with Peter Kerr and Barry Lidstone.  I know Barry well as he is sings in our church choir, and they were terrific. Bernie Praw is the greatest guy and since I worked at the school for 17 years I have a very soft spot for what goes on there

 - Dale Wallace C'51

I did attend with my wife and sister and wouldn't have missed it for the world.  The performances were great and the young students were also talented and entertaining.  I thought it was a good format the Now.....and Then, but in future we should make sure that we encourage students and their parents to attend.  The idea of having it not at Christmas but at another time during the year, and also on a weeknight are good suggestions.
The performances were A-1, I believe we learned quite a bit about how we should promote it next time, and the organization was professional.
Congratulations to all involved and may you all have the best of holiday seasons.
-  Jack Anderson C'71

I was able to catch the last half of the show with the allumni performers and it was fantastic.  I heard the 1st half with the students from the school was equally as good and I was sorry that I missed it. Hats off to Bernie and the rest of you who helped out.

- Steve Souaid C'78

It really was an excellent show.  The timing probably is what hurt attendance the most but word of mouth about the show is bound to be great and should help us fill the place next time. I definitely think there should be a next time.  Having both current and former students performing was wonderful!
Thank you again to Richard, Bernie, Harvey and Barry for their work on the show.  People who could not attend missed out on something special.

-  Mike Languay - Principal Chambly Academy

Grey Cup 2010
Excuses, Excuses

The above  will maybe explain my absence from the last Directors meeting. I had originally planned to be back from the Grey Cup in time for the Board meeting but I was having such a good time with Rob Hilliard CCHS '64 and Ed Harding CCHS '63 that I extended my stay.
