November 2010, Edition 64,
Members Only Edition |
Editorial by Angus Cross |
The alumni association has made a major step forward. Finally an event , other than All Year Reunions every 5 years, has been announced. The new venture is a Christmas Variety Show (see below) which I hope is a major success, and can become an annual event.
I suspect that some of you are not aware that when you "click " on underlined text in red anywhere in the newsletter, that you will be automatically taken to a page on the Chambly website.
Some members have asked, "how will I know when my membership fees are due?" Reminders are sent by email.
Ruth Kelly C'72 suggested we add the names to accompany the class photos taken at Reunion 2010. This is now being done and can be seen by visiting your class photo gallery.

Alumni emails to the Editor |
Even though I have lived in Souh Florida for almost 50 yrs, my family & I always celebrate the Canadian Thanksgiving & American in November. Then we don't want to see any turkey for a long time. This year I am out in San Francisco with my youngest son, daughter-in-law and 5 yr old grandson. He is so excited tha we are cooking a turkey.
Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family, Wilma Gillespie Beckman C'58 I hope you found the survey results encouraging. I really would like to attend in 2015. This year our first grandchild's birth had us pacing the floor instead of socializing up in PQ. First things first, after all. I was touched by the response/question about life-histories for alums who have passed away. In particular, I remember Derek Hynes (who was in most of my classes from Grade 6 - 11) and hope he had a satisfying life. He used to play the piano with such flair! I plan to make a contribution to the memorial garden. Hope your Thanksgiving is a happy one. Ours comes too late in the year for my liking. Marianne Gertman C'65 Santa Barbara, CA
Thank you for the latest publication. I see that Cousins - Bruce Field, Sheila Kerr (her late husband Peter was my cousin) are into doing things, good for them. I look forward to each month's reading of good old St. .L.. It would be a shame if it should fold. But I am afraid that each generation is getting less and less interested in keeping up with things and in getting involved with doing any organizing or work I am beginning to feel like calling them the ME generation. There are still a few interested thank God, but most are not interested in working to help running or holding any kind of office in an organization of any kind. someone else can do it!!! I'll get off my soap box now.
I send the CCHS Alumni newsletter on to Hilda Lucas in Salt Springs, BC.
Hilda was the choir director of the Junior Choir at St. Barnabas Church in St. Lambert. We had lost touch over the years but about ten years ago, through Liz Anyon, we reconnected. Hilda never graduated from high school but has remained interested in St. Lambert and is really enjoying the newsletters. (Especially the ones with her pictures!!)
At any rate, I echo her sentiments.
Jennifer Burnham C'61
Thank you for continuing to do a great job with the alumni association.
Overall, I think the survey results are positive, especially when I compare similar organization surveys with which I have been involved in my career.
A 30% indication of those responding who might join the alumni association is above the norm. As well, a 20%+ indication of non members who might attend a 2015 re-union is also encouraging.
The positive responses may appear low, however, comparatively speaking they are definitely above average.
We who are members should appreciate that not all graduates are "into" staying in touch. I believe it involves a personality trait. Some people love to "stay in touch" while others simply "move on" for whatever reason.
It is very worthwhile to maintain the alumni association. In CCHS's case, the association not only maintains student and teacher contacts, it also is an indicator to the school board that Chambly Academy is an institution worth maintaining. - Bruce clark C'66

Remembrance Day, November 11

I trust we all will pause and reflect on
the sacrifices made by our veterans and those that serve today in far off Afghanistan.

Wally Charon C'39 WWII
Veteran
At the onset of WWII when Canadian young men left home and enlisted in the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Air Force, or Royal Canadian Navy, a huge shortage appeared on the shop floors of industry across the country. Canadian young women stepped up to fill the gap and produce the goods needed for our war effort.
Hilda Lucas C'42
When the war began I left school and went to work as there was such a shortage of men in the work force . Shortly after I went to work at Dominion Engineering in Longueil and was there for 2 years after the end of the war, closing the plant took that long to rap up things on war work. The main company was in Lachine. I tell you this because I would imagine I was not the only girl that finishing school was not possible. |

Chambly Academy Christmas Wreath Campaign |
This year the Parent Participation Organization Committee (P.P.O.) has set an objective to raise money in order to ameliorate the technology in the classrooms. The purchase of Smart Boards would ensure that our children have access to the highest standards of education.
In order to help us reach our goal, we have chosen to sell Wilson Wreaths as a fundraiser this Christmas.
Deadline for orders is November 10th.
To purchase a wreath please contact
