Childhood Friends Together Again.
Beverley Walker (Lowe) C'77 was in Haiti during the week of the nightmare. She had gone to work for Mission of Hope, an orphanage, as a volunteer for a week. Her sister, Valerie Welburn C'67 was unable to reach her for several days but thank goodness, she and the others in her group were safe. After surviving the earthquake, the group established a clinic at the Mission of Hope.

OBITUARY KIM HARRY KURTZ, CCHS Class of 1969 Kim Kurtz 1952 - 2010, a well-known children's advocate heavily involved for over a quarter of a century in furthering the welfare of children and youth in the Montreal community, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 31, 2010. He was fifty-seven years of age. A much loved father and devoted husband, Kim is survived by Liz Kopystecki, his wife and partner of fifteen years, and his three daughters: Kelly-Anne (9), Jessie (7) and Kaylee (4).
Born on November 23, 1952 in Montreal to Jack Philip Kurtz and the recently-departed Marcelle "Marcie" Ruth Gagnon, Kim was one of four children and will be sorely missed by his father and siblings Terry (Margaret), Karen (Pierre) and David (Monica). While a native of St. Lambert nearly all of his life, Kim will also be fondly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and countless friends across North America whom he touched with his gentle nature, loving spirit and unwavering loyalty.
Kim was an accomplished photographer and athlete. His basketball career included playing and coaching numerous South Shore teams that won local, provincial and national titles. He was active at the varsity level with Sir George Williams University and took his love of the game to the Canadian Amateur Basketball Association in Ottawa where he worked in an executive capacity for this national sports organization. During a 30-plus year career at Batshaw Youth and Family Centres and Shawbridge Boys Farm, Kim worked passionately and tirelessly to change so many young people's lives for the better. For the last dozen years, he was instrumental in creating an active network of close to 200 volunteers as Coordinator of Volunteer Services and Special Projects and, in the process, transformed the lives of thousands of people. As well, in 1999, he founded the St. Lambert Annual Toy Drive. Kim opened his heart and home to many children over the years, and he did everything in his power to make life better for them. His generosity was an example to all who came to know him. Kim inspired people with his energy for life and made his own life meaningful and fulfilling. He will always be remembered for his incredible caring and for making the world a better place to live, surrounded by people he loved and who loved him. A most devoted father, Kim was and always will be the bright shining star to his children.
