On August 21st. I initiated a mass email sent to 1,978 alumni inviting all to participate in a general survey. The results of the survey were most informative, with many great suggestions, for the website, the newsletter, and the association.

One of the very interesting facts that the survey has revealed is that association members feel we are doing quite well. On the other hand we didn't fare so well with non association members. Unfortunately the need for respecting the privacy of priviliged member information dictates a split website and newsletter.

All of the comments expressed in the survey will definitely mean a better run, better organized, and more enjoyable reunion next spring. Over the coming months we will highlight what you can expect if you attend the reunion.

I asked all of the Board of Directors of the association to review the results and comments. While I do my best to represent all of the members at meetings, I really do think your wishes should dictate the direction of our association. The Directors have been asked to make public their comments in The Alumni Forum

I last went to the school on September 2nd and was able to get some shots of the inside finished areas and the outside. However, because the gym is still under construction and won't be handed over to the school until near the end of September, I was not allowed inside. Apparently when school started teachers and students were parading through the work zone and the contractor was afraid someone would be hurt. A letter was sent to the school and school board banning any further visits.

The pictures I did get of the new gym are from a week earlier when everyone was a little more relaxed.

Reunion 2010 updates

Hotel Brossard

Hotel Brossard will give us a rate of $79 per night for next May and will set aside up to 40 rooms.

It is a very nice facility at that price, much better than the Quality Inn. We just have to make sure we provide good directions for getting to the hotel - it is on the south side of Marie Victorin Blvd. which becomes Riverside Drive in St. Lambert but, it is a one way street at that particular juncture. You have to take the North side of Marie Victorin past the Champlain Bridge cut-off continue to Rome Blvd. and then come back.  "Cliquez ici" pour Hotel Brossard

The next meeting of the Reunion Committee will take place at 7pm on September 15th. at Chambly Academy. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks and are invited to attend the meeting.

THE WOODCARVER                                      Bob
by
Robert E. Wrigley, Class of 1961

One of the standard classes most male students took for a couple of years at Chambly County High School back in the 1950s and 1960s went by the name of Industrial Arts; most young ladies diligently attended Home Economics class to learn other essential life-support skills.  I have sometimes reflected on the catchy names applied to things and activities, often chosen in an attempt to grant status, be current (or hip in the olden days), or to attract participation (e.g., the recent comical names applied to each new exercise-routine craze).  Many buzz words are just plain irritating, and I am so relieved when they die a natural death, sadly to be replaced by a plethora of new ones (such as "going forward") by the next generation.  Consequently, one would be hard-pressed to enrol anywhere these days in Industrial Arts, although many of the same skills are taught today in trade schools.  However, back then, Industrial Arts had an important-sounding ring to it, and while I was not entirely certain what it actually meant, I knew it had to do with wood working.

Cartoons, Games, Quizes

My wife and I were sitting at a  table at our high school reunion, and I kept
staring at  a drunken lady swigging her  drink as she sat alone at a  nearby
 table.

My wife asked, 'Do you know her?'

'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend... I understand she  took to drinking right after we  split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been  sober since.'
'My God!' says my wife, 'who would think a  person could go on celebrating that long?'

And then the fight started...
