"TACKLE BY MILLIGAN " by Dave Baxter - Class of 1960
Without doubt, I was the most run over defensive halfback ever to play midget football. Steve Montague, our coach, looked upon this poor football misfit and assigned me to defensive halfback and back up quarterback. The star of the team, John Milligan played first-string quarterback. John was one of my best friends and I would reckon one of the best football players in the Montreal area, so my position as backup QB was what I would call an honourary title.
I toiled away at my defensive half position with what appeared to be a glass helmet. Despite the urgings of my coaches, I never stuck that helmet where it might get broken or cracked. While on the field my mind often wandered during practices, sometimes just from watching CCHS/CSA tracksters running around the 440 circuit at L'Esperance field, two in particular which I clearly recall were Bob Land and Bob Gilmour, both great athletes.

Membership : |
Welcome New Life Member, Jacqueline Ivancajic (Muir) C'81 Membership has stalled in recent months. While most members are renewing their membership, as it becomes due, we do tend to lose a few. The Board of Directors will be asked to approve a "Membership Drive" at the next meeting in March. Thinking is along the lines outlined below.
CCHS's Member-Get-A-Member Contest Tell your classmates and relatives about the great advantages and benefits of CCHS membership and you could win your dream vacation. Every time you submit the name of a potential new CCHS member, your name will be entered to win a Cruise Vacation for Two.

Announcements
Births, deaths, marriages, appointments, retirements,, awards |
My sad news is that my ex-husband & friend of many CCHS alumni, Rick Conrick, age 66, drowned while scuba diving in Hawaii on Saturday, January 10.
He leaves behind our 2 children, Kevin & Karina& their spouses & 4 grandchildren, Kev's 2 daughters (Morgan & Marin) & Karina's daughter Julianna & son Quinton, as well as his second wife & 2 step-children.
Rick will be fondly remembered for his love of sports, both as a participant & armchair athlete! When I first met him in Grade 9, Rick was hobbling on crutches due to a football injury. He never played football after that, but from 1964-69 he had the next-best volunteer position for a football fan: co-ordinator of the half-time show for the Montreal Alouettes! He was on the track team at CCHS & took great pride in running the 100-yard dash in 10 seconds! He also loved water sports, including swimming, high diving & yes, scuba...
Jo-Anne Ward C'61 DUERKSEN, Henry. (1927-2009). (Former CCHS Industrial Arts teacher)Suddenly at his home on January 24, 2009. He is survived by Lucy, his loving wife of 52 years, children David (Bernadette), Sharon (Andrew) and Andrew and grandson Damian. Resting at 1025 St-Laurent West, Longueuil. Visitation on Monday, January 26, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service at The Peoples Church, 2097 Union St., Montreal, on Tuesday January 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadien Multiple Sclerosis Society in his memory would be greatly appreciated. |
The Hunt for Missing Alumni |
I am a lifetime member of the CCHS site from the class of 1972. I was scrolling through the various graduating classes and found my sister Pat's class of 1967. Her name was on the list of unknown addresses. I imagine that she is not interested in becoming a member or she would have contatcted you by now ( and that is beyond my understanding ). I do know about her address and history. Do we list the whereabouts of non-participating members? if we do, I could update her situation. Please advise me what I should do. While I have you; the site is fabulous. I go there at least five times a week. It's evolution is unbelieveable. What a great effort you have made.Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to share what was inevitably the best days of our lives.
Stephen Campbell C'72
Thanks Stephen for the nice compliment about our efforts. Finding Missing Alumni is probably our most important task. We want to ensure that everybody at least knows about the upcoming reunion.
All leads are checked so please help in the hunt for your brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, who attended CCHS, but still remain on our Missing List

TAX ALERT |
The Canada Revenue Agency
warns Canadians of mail scam
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is warning taxpayers to beware of a recent scam where some Canadians are receiving a letter fraudulently identified as coming from the CRA and asking for personal information. The letter is not from the CRA. A PDF version of the letter is available on the CRA Web site.
The letter claims that there is "insufficient information" for the individual's tax return and that in order to receive any "claims," they will have to update their records. The letter attaches a form specifically requesting the individual's personal information in writing, via fax or email, including information on bank accounts and passports. This letter is not from the CRA and Canadians should not provide their personal information to the sender.
All taxpayers should be vigilant when divulging any confidential information to third parties. The CRA has well established practices to protect the confidentiality of taxpayers' information. Include "How-to" articles or hints and tips on related subjects. Try a reader's poll. People love to give their opinion, and you can publish the results in your next newsletter. Drive traffic to your website by entering teaser text for the article with a link to your website for readers to view the full text.
