Happy New Year, folks! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. My winter break from computing was great, for a little while. We spent Christmas in Sydney, NS with my daughter and her family. My grandchildren had a big laugh watching Grandpa ski jumping with their Wii FIT. Unfortunately, after we returned to Halifax I had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital for 6 days. Never did get to the lobster feed at a neighbour's house on New Year's Eve. I have to go back to the hospital for triple by-pass later this month so I am afraid you may experience some delay in my answering your e-mails.
This year we intend to hi-light more alumni in the Newsletter section "Alumni Where are They Now".
This will include an alumnus-supplied personal photograph with a link to their Class Photo Gallery on the Alumni Website.
Until notified differently members may upload their profile, photo, and slide show, without any additional charges.
We will do our best to keep you informed, and entertained over the year, BUT bear in mind, we are only as good as the material you all send us.

Much Better site
I have refused to renew my so-called "Gold" membership on Classmates.com because the site is just too generic and colourless.
Our CCHS site is much better, costs a whole lot less and has stuff of real interest to all. "Alumni....... Where are they now?"
Please send your photos, with a short caption, via email or contact Warren Mackenzie for snail mail instructions:

Who's Who |
Due to the busy schedules of current nominees to our Who's Who, we were unable to garner adequate biographical material and photos prior to newsletter deadline. We should be back in synch next month.
An ulterior motive in pushing for more member profiles is to aid in our hunt for suitable Who's Who candidates.
To nominate a candidate for the WHO'S WHO directory through the 'On-line' method, simply 'click' "here".

"The Concert " by Bob Wrigley - Class of 1961
Music has always played a prominent role in the lives of young people, and there were plenty of opportunities to explore different avenues in St. Lambert and at Chambly County High School when I was a teenager in the 1950s and early 60s. I admit to having enjoyed music class in school - a welcome break from challenging French and geometry classes, mastery of which persistently alluded me right to graduation. However, students in my class were sometimes rough on our female music teachers, with considerable 'horsing around' going on behind their backs -- a tennis ball flying back and forth, and bouncing off the chalkboard, was just one example - and one teacher sadly suffered a nervous breakdown, not solely from our bad behaviour I hoped. On the positive side, we were all exposed to a variety of musical forms (I refuse to employ the over-used word "genre" in my vocabulary.), which stimulated some of us to pursue music as a hobby, or at least to broaden our musical interests. * In the name of the Alumni Association I have arranged for an Annual Subscription to the "Canadian Art" Magazine to be sent for use in the Chambly Academy school library. - anonymous donor
Thank you very much for your donation to the library. Chambly has many enthusiastic art students and I am sure the Canadian Art magazine will be greatly appreciated! - Mike Languay - Principal
** Mentorship. You asked me to serve as mentor. It was overlooked because I was travelling at the time. It looks like a good idea and I have enrolled.
Victor Vroom - Professor of Organizational Behavior and Psychology at Yale University
Thank you Victor for agreeing to become a mentor. Now all we have to do is convince the school board that people like you are qualified, and not an endangerment to the students. - Angus (with tongue in cheek) |

Is this brightly coloured, almost gaudy, cafe interior at 476 Victoria Ave. in Saint Lambert the successor to that old CCHS student haunt "The Soda Bar" ? |
Reunion 2010 marking the 60 years

Class Contacts Wanted
Much of the success of Reunion 2005 can be contributed to the efforts of all the Class Contacts who supplied the reunion committee with the names, location, and email addresses of their classmates. At this time the alumni association is seeking alumni to act as Class Contact for their respective class year. If interested please contact Daniel Thompson our Class Contacts co-ordinator.

Welcome New Members who have recently joined the association: |
No new members have joined the association in the last month !
As the economy turns sour, and our IT budget for the website and newsletter remains flat or may get reduced, doing more with the infrastructure we have has never been more important. But investing even more money in the same old networking infrastructure, storage, servers and bandwidth is not going to help us reach your strategic goals.
We need new members, new ideas, and much more input from our readers !

Thanks for the December newsletter. Your timing is impeccable because I have just returned home from the funeral of my cousin, Janice Brown C'68. She also attended CCHS and passed away in December at St. Mike's Hospital in Toronto. Janice was 57. - Greg Brown C'74
Roy Smith, class of 1960 died today in London Ontario - he would have turned 66 tomorrow.
Roy had been suffering from lung cancer for well over a year. He was told it was caused by exposure to asbestos, perhaps when he worked summers at Vicker's shipyard or through his regular work at Bell Telephone - both industries are known areas of exposure.
Roy was a non-smoker and apparently cancer caused by asbestos is very specific and easily identified and distinguished from smokers' cancer(but not easily treated). I last saw him in September when came to Montreal to see Doctor's at the Quebec Worker's Compensation Board. All they did was confirm the original diagnosis/cause and sent him on his way. He told me then he didn't think he would make it past Christmas.
Roy was married and divorced. His former wife died some years ago and for many years Roy looked after her two sons(his step sons) even though she had left for Belize. He was still supporting one of the sons, who is intellectually challenged, and was making arrangements to provide him with long term care before he passed on.
It is a sad day.
