Editorial by Angus Cross  Angus05
It is now just over 3 years since the last "all year reunion" was held over the July 1st. weekend in 2005. Over the 3-year span much has happened to keep the spirit of Reunion 2005 alive. The CCHS & CA Alumni Association came into being with the mandate to enable alumni, students, staff, and friends of CCHS & CA to maintain their contact with the school, and each other, for their shared benefit, and the vital support and development of the school. Another goal of the Association was to organize a further all-years reunion for the Victoria Day weekend in May 2010.
The Board of Directors of the association decided that one way to achieve their objective was to keep active the Alumni website and monthly newsletter, Alumni Connection. Through keeping in contact with those who attended Reunion 2005, the database of names and addresses would be kept up to date, and hopefully new alumni would be found.
For the most part the strategy has worked. The association has over 500 active members, and is in contact with an additional 1,200 plus non-member alumni. On the downside however is the fact that in the database total over 4,500 are Missing, lost contacts, unconfirmed, or snail-mail. Those who wish no further contact, as well as those who have passed away, have been identified.
The Alumni website and Alumni Connection are funded by a portion of membership revenues, which, in most of the last 36 months, has been adequate to cover all the operating costs.
We wish to thank all of our readers for their support, comments, photos, and articles, without which we could not continue.

The "HENS" Keep Connecting

In 2007 a group of alumnae 'best' friends that have known each other since Elementary School and who refer to themselves as the "Hens" met at the Carson cottage spending a couple of days there, doing what girls do best...talking, eating and drinking a lot of wine!
Debbie Barber commented: "We had a blast, and are planning another get together in Vancouver next year.   Our friendship is truly a special one, and as we get older, we appreciate it even more, and make more of an effort to nurture it."
Debbie promised there would be a photo from their next get together, one year later and now here it is.
Debbie wrote: As promised a year ago, here is a group picture from the recent trip to Vancouver & Whistler. From left, it's Susan MacKenzie, Anne Waymann, Tracey Simmons, myself and Emily Carson, all from the Class of 80. This June, 2008 photo was taken at Tracey's home in Vancouver during our annual girl's reunion weekend.

Who's Who
I regret to inform our readers that once again we have no new entries into our Who's Who.

Both Jim Munson C-'63 and Andy Glew C-'78 had been nominated, approved, and agreed to participate. Unfortunately neither seems to have had enough time to provide us with sufficient information, and photos to complete their biographies.

Unless we receive some new nominations it is with much regret that we will have to terminate this very popular section.

I have enjoyed receiving the newsletters and browsing the site to find old friends. I was able to meet with Sheila Jones (Stack) '64 last month while at a conference in Calgary. I found her through the original alumni list; a great visit and walk down memory lane. Sheila and I commuted to St. Lambert from East Greenfield and Brookline (Barb), both joining CCHS in grade 9.   Thanks for your hard work in maintaining the site; looking forward to more news of a reunion in 2010.

Andy Thumbnail Flashback - You Can't Go Home Again!  by Andy Little
 You Can't Go Home Again

When the American novelist Thomas Wolfe chose You Can't Go Home Again as the title for his 1934 novel, he put into words a truth as old as civilization itself. Because the passage of time changes everything, we can never really find the "home" we left behind. It exists only in our minds, in our memories.
The St. Lambert of my youth, the forties and fifties, will always be "home" to me, but when I return today it is no longer the same.  Yes, the town is still there and so is the house on Merton Avenue where we lived for ten years. A few students from my high school days even settled in St. Lambert and raised families of their own.  There are familiar landmarks as I walk the streets.  The cenotaph remains, and many of the buildings on Victoria Avenue are much the same as they were in my youth.  With all these visual aides I keep telling myself I should be able to reconnect with the past, but it eludes me.

ASK (Alumni Sharing Knowledge)
Introducing the association's  New Mentor-Protege program

"ASK".    This program is an online, e-mentoring service that pairs current students, or alumni seeking career advice with other alumni. The focus of the service is to assist in learning about career options and seek advice from successful alumni working in a variety of professions and fields.

We recently asked all the alumni featured in our Who's Who, and Directors of the association,  to review the program, make suggestions, and hopefully volunteer to act as mentors. Their response was very encouraging.   We hope that a lot of members will volunteer to act as mentors. Regardless of your profession or trade, there are people who would like to know more about your line of work. This program is an online, e-mentoring service that pairs current students with alumni. The focus of the service is to assist students to learn about career options and seek advice from successful alumni working in a variety of professions and fields.

Mike LanguayMichael "Mike" Languay has been appointed as the new Principal of Chambly Academy.

I have been a part of Riverside School Board and its predecessors since I was 8 years old.  I grew up in St. Lambert, and attended Preville Elementary and LeMoyne D'Iberville High School.  I did my student-teaching  at Harold Napper, LeMoyne and Centennial and subbed at virtually all, the then S.S.P.R.S.B., schools during my first year after graduating from McGill.  After working for 4 years for the YMCA as a Community Centre Director, I returned to teaching at St. Johns School where I taught Phys Ed, Math, Science, Computers, and Leadership, for 15 years.  In 2005, I became Vice-Principal at St. Johns.  Last year I transferred to Centennial also as a VP.

I am married to a great teacher, Annette Languay, who taught at Chambly several years ago,  and we have three university age children.

I am thrilled to be coming to such a special school.  I am a small schools type of person.  I love the closeness and community that can only be found in schools like Chambly  Academy.  With Part 2 of the renovations being completed this summer and the very exciting prospect of a new gym and library ready for the Fall of 2009, Chambly Academy is going to be an exciting and rewarding place to be.  I am looking forward to meeting all the members of the Chambly family and working with you for many years to come.

Mike Languay
