1976 Grads Meet
In April, 2008 Kathy Ferguson, Helen Kerr, Janet Neilson and Cathie Major are pictured in Janet Nielson's back yard in Toronto. Janet's home backs onto Casa Loma which appears in the background. Kathy Ferguson aims at organizing a 'once-a-year' get-together for us, but with our busy lives, children's activities, etc. makes this a most difficult task, and some years we only see each other at a school reunion - silly when we live relatively close. This April 20th was a perfect spring weekend, and with no 'special occasion' to warrant our getting together, before cottages have been opened up - it was a last minute arrangement, and it worked beautifully. The "boys" skiing photo 'get-together' from one of the last newsletters was great as they all went to school with us and gave us the push to make sure we got together too. (Cathie Major Croucher). |

NEED ALUMNI INPUT
For the past couple of years the Alumni Connection has included a monthly "Alumni Photo of The Month" selection. These photos have been provided by you the readers and have been enjoyed by everyone.
The inventory of unused photos is exhausted and we are requesting that everyone open their albums to find group or other photos representing school activities.
While the majority of the excellent photos have be provided by alumni from the 1940's and 1950's (and we'll still accept more) we'd like to receive more representing the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. We need input from everyone.
You can either scan / email photos to mmslon@sympatico.ca , or provide originals and we'll look after the scanning.

Alumni Association News |
V/P Harvey Carter of our alumni association presenting a cheque to Pierre Richard of the St. Lambert Legion.
Letter to the City of Saint-Lambert - Subject: Commemorative Placques
The Chambly County High School & Chambly Academy Alumni Association is made up of former students who attended the Green Street English high schools over the last 70 years or so. As you can imagine, most of our members now reside outside of Saint-Lambert, being spread across Canada, the United States and elsewhere. However, even though they no longer live here, all retain fond memories of the city and their school and all were deeply saddened by the theft of the war memorial plague. Some of our alumni served in World War II and many others had family members and friends who also served. And, unfortunately, almost all of us knew someone who paid the ultimate price.
As a small token of our respect for the veterans, who gave so much, the Alumni Association board of directors asked its members for contributions that would be used to help replace the plaque. In this regard, and as a representative of the Alumni Association, I am pleased to enclose the attached cheque for $610 made payable to the Saint-Lambert Commemorative Placques fund. This donation is being made on behalf of the Saint-Lambert Branch (Que. No. 68) of the Royal Canadian Legion and its members who epitomize the sense of commitment, courage and values displayed by all of Canada's war veterans.
Yours truly,
Harvey Carter
Vice-President and Secretary
CCHS & CA Alumni Association

The association is pleased to announce three new recipients of our
Distinguished Service Award
.
Pat Wagner:
Pat did not graduate from Chambly County High but has maintained a strong and supporting relationship with the school because of her two children, Beth (Class of 1994) and Greg (Class of 1997).
During her stint on the 2005 Reunion Committee she did a little bit of everything including, initial contact work, registration, souvenir sales and production of the memorial CD. A tireless worker, she was able to enlist the help of her husband Brian and a number of friends when things just had to get done and critical deadlines were almost upon us. The committee would not have functioned nearly as well without her. Following the 2005 event, Pat was part of the original board of directors of the Alumni Association, helping to get things off the ground.
To this day, some eleven years after Greg's graduation, Pat still sits on the Chambly Academy Governing Board as a Community Representative. She lives in St. Lambert and gets to the see many of the Chambly grads through her work in the Registrar's office at Champlain College.
Thanks Pat for all you have done.
Cynthia Montpetit (Fulton) Class of 1972:
Cynthia was a key member of the Reunion 2005 Registration Committee putting in long hours making sure all the applications were handled properly in the data base (names spelled correctly, people booked for the right events, payments received and etc.). It seems she also personally recruited a large number of family members from far and wide who made it to St. Lambert that summer.
Cynthia stayed on and as a member of the Alumni Association's board of director but resigned after about a year so that she could continue with her studies at night. She still lives on the South Shore and you can bet we'll call on her to help out in 2010.
Thanks Cynthia, it would have been tough without your help.
Dave Stagg Class of 1971
Dave joined the Reunion 2005 Committee in early 2004 after being recruited (with just a little bit of arm twisting) by Co-Chairman Jack Anderson.
He served as Treasurer of the Committee keeping track of all our expenditures, revenues, budgets and bank accounts - you would be surprised how much detail one little reunion can generate. After reunion business wound up in late 2005 Dave joined the Alumni Association board of directors and again served as Treasurer. He has since given up those duties but remains an active member of the board.
Thanks Dave for your valuable input.
Past Recipients:
Fergus Groundwater (1956), Anthony McGarr (1977), Beverly Maize (volunteer), John Ernst (1958), Judy Ernst (volunteer), Harvey Carter (1960), Warren Mackenzie (1957), Nick Brenner (1964), Angus Cross (1960), Jack Anderson (1971), Pamela Storr (1984), Jean McHarg (former teacher), Bernie Praw (former teacher & principal), Pat Wylie (1966), Barry Keeler (1982), Tony Salmon (1974), Brian Perron (1972), Peter Payan (1959) |
Members Poll |
The Executive Committee of our association is exploring the idea of starting a Mentorship Program. By going to people who are ahead of our young alumni in the personal or professional arena and opening an avenue to their input, advice, and guidance. This can save our youth the many months (maybe even years) it would take and the thousands of dollars it would cost to learn what they need to learn on their own.
Also in our ever changing world economy many workers have been displaced and require retraining in order to find gainful employment.
Benjamin Franklin once said, "there are two ways to acquire wisdom; you can either buy it or borrow it."

Peter Payan C'59 from Montreal, QC writes:
Thanks for another excellent newsletter!!
Thanks to for the unexpected Distinguished Service Award.
The only unusual thing I've done was to come to a meeting in
June 2005 after breaking my arm on the way there. I tripped
on some plastic trash as I hurried along the street. It didn't hurt
enough to miss the meeting and I didn't know that it was broken
until I had it xrayed in Montreal the next day.

I downloaded Firefox and it solves the access problem; however, it would be better if you could fix the problem for Mac users using Safari as it is the Mac browser.

One of these days, do consider posting a photo of you looking cheerful and pleased with the world. Your photos make you look far too concerned and worried about life.
