We are in the process of revamping all the Class pages in order to provide quicker load times on your computer. In average the new format will load 6 times faster than previous version.
We ask that when your class is contacted that you confirm that the listing we have for yourself is absolutely correct. Please check your listing for correct City/Province and ensure the email address is correct and that it opens when selected.

If you know the whereabouts of any of your classmates that appear on the Missing List please advise with as much information as you can. All information provided is treated with the utmost security and we do not reveal or sell the information to any 3rd. parties.

This exercise is progressing quite nicely with great results and comments from classes completed so far. Many missing have been found, and several lost contacts have been relocated.

If you find the quality and content of this newsletter and perhaps next month's version to not be up to snuff, please allow for the fact that both Warren and I will be on vacation over much the period.

We didn't have anything suitable to post this month but hope to have something next month as a result of Angus meeting up with some California alumni. Also we have heard of a possible Calgary mini-reunion in the offing.

Alumni Association News
The next association meeting of the Board of Directors will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 7:00 PM at Chambly Academy.  Visitors are welcome.

Alumni Association Distinguished Service Awards

The Alumni Association Board of Directors has established a Distinguished Service Award program to recognize the contributions individuals have made over the years to the alumni association and the preservation of school spirit for the school, and current student body. These contribution may have been monetary, a free service or, as in most cases, the donation of voluntary time and effort.

The association is pleased to announce five new recipients of our

Distinguished Service Award

Jack Anderson (Class of 1971)

Jack came on the scene in the summer of 2003 and helped restructure the 2005 Reunion Committee. He was appointed Co-Chairperson of the committee and took on the responsibility for organizing the Friday night meet & greet. Ever resourceful, Jack even conscripted his wife Maureen, a non-CCHS grad, to serve on the committee.

If you own a copy of St. Lambert's 150th Anniversary memorial book you'll know that Jack researched and wrote a history of St. Lambert's English School System (it was reprinted in the February newsletter and website). And speaking of books, Jack has been able to help out the school library by using his connections to obtain reduced prices for a great many publications.

Jack was unanimously appointed as Co-chairperson and CEO of your Alumni Association late last year and works diligently to keep us on track and moving forward. Although he left St. Lambert several years ago and now lives on the West Island, he is still frequently seen on the south shore. And, as we approach the 2010 reunion, you can bet he'll be wearing out the Champlain Bridge as he travels back and fourth.

Keep up the good work Jack.

Pamela Storr (Class of 1984)

Pamela Storr, along with Nick Brenner, was one of the original 2005 committee members and acted as Secretary. She was instrumental in getting things off the ground. Again, it would be safe to say that without her help the 2005 Reunion might not have happened. Although she eventually left the committee because of job and travel pressures, she stayed on as class contact and helped recruit many of the 2005 attendees.

Pamela continues to help out as class contact and has also been the nominator for several Who's Who entrants. We look forward to her continued contribution leading up to the 2010 Reunion.

Thanks Pamela

Jean McHarg (Former CCHS Teacher)

Jean McHarg's involvement goes back to the 1995 Reunion when she was teaching at good old CCHS. Among other things she organized the student helpers, affectionately known as the red shirts, who contributed so much to the 1995 week end.

By the time planning for the 2005 Reunion was underway; Jean had retired and moved to Nova Scotia, however, that didn't stop her.  She took on the job of contacting former teachers, and students across Canada and persuading them to attend.

Jean is a Life Member of the Alumni Association and a contributor to the monthly news letter.

Congratulations Jean and thanks for the continued support

Bernie Praw (Teacher and Principal)

Bernie was a teacher and principal at CCHS for over 30 years. He retired a few short years ago but just can't stay away from the education scene. He works as a school commissioner for the Montreal English School Board and has recently taken up substitute teaching, in mathematics, at Chambly Academy.

Bernie was very involved with the 2005 reunion committee. He is a Life Member of the Alumni Association, serves on the board of directors and works on the Who's Who feature of the website and newsletter.

Bernie took up world traveling during his teaching days at CCHS, organizing student trips to Europe, Asia and almost any place a plane would land.  He is still at today, arranging at least one exotic trip a year for friends and acquaintances. His other claim to frame is his sharp wit (or as some would say smart mouth). The banter and jokes at board meetings keeps everyone energized and on their toes - you never know what's coming next.

The board of directors has just about convinced Bernie to organize a Saturday afternoon variety show for the 2010 reunion. This is something he has a natural talent for, having helped organize and produce student musicals and variety shows throughout his career. It will be a real crowd pleaser.

Thanks Bernie for all you have done and we are looking forward to 2010

Pat Wylie (Class of 1966)

Pat was on the scene very early and became a key member of the 2005 Reunion organizing committee. She handled publicity for the event, pitched in where ever necessary and was able to recruit her two daughters, Heather and Cathryn, who looked after decorations and other odds and ends.

Pat served on the Association's board of directors until last year when she had to take a sabbatical because of work commitments.

Thanks Pat for all your hard work and dedication to the cause. As we get closer to 2010 you can expect a call for help - your experience and  knowledge can be put to good use.

1930's
On behalf of Phyllis Mackie (Ingmire) C'38, I am enclosing the list of names of the students in Class of 1938 at St.Lambert High School.  I hope this will be helpful to you.  I am sure my mother would be thrilled if you are able to add this photo to the website photo gallery.  The work you did in restoring the outer edges of the photo is amazing.  She will be putting the original photo in a glass frame to prevent further deterioration.  And she now has your restored version filed on her computer as well.

Thanks for another great newsletter. Was happy to hear you had "found" Jim Groundwater. We spent a lot of time working on Student Council together.(class of '59).I would like him to know that while at McGill (PT '62) I met & married Jim Valliant, had 3 children, now have 5 grandchildren, & am happily retired in Toronto with Jim where we enjoy our grandkids, tennis, cycling, theatre, & my volunteer work in E.R. @ St Joe's.
Also ,hope you have a wonderful vacation. I DO appreciate all the work you & Warren do to produce this great newsletter....................Margo(Tomalty)Valliant

1960's
You may be wondering why I have not joined the Alumni Association. Since you have been including me on the mailings I appreciate it. However I actually only attended CCHS for 1 year 1960. That was grade 8 and then I transferred to Montreal High. I did however appreciate that I was able to see some names from public school and I lived in St Lambert until 1965, so I hung around with quite a few of the folks and am interested. I contacted Jim Munson, Peter Gilbert, the Read brothers and Mel Smith from a combination of  web site searches and personal contacts. If I had stayed at CCHS I would have been a 1964 grad, so lots of the names in your chart are recognizable. You could ad a column for actual year attended since I am sure that I am not the only one who was there for part of the time. Also you may want to send out the surrounding years to be sure that folks are correctly captured. I do not mind being on the list but still think that I am not in the inner circle having attended only one year so my participation will be to assist you if I can with names and locations but not to participate in the activities.
John Nourse C'64

Once again a great Newsletter. I have not quite finished perusing, but wondered about a photo of Mr Kennedy's 1961 class. The list of students says that Rick Overall is 'absent' but as I was looking at the photo I could have sworn I recognized Rick, standing 3rd from the right in the back, wearing glasses, head tilted back. The guy in front of him is wearing a blue shirt and brown jacket. Just wondering.

Thanks again for all you do! Was glad to see a couple of my old classmates, have become members.  .......... Susan Collins  C'64

1970's
First of all you and your cronies are doing a magnificent job of running and maintaining the web site and the association in general. So kudos to you all.
One another note I was one of those students that transferred in. I had come from Vancouver and missed the last two years of my previous High School. I have visited their website and I must say I was shocked that there was NO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION or any form of contact. So again Hurrah for CCHS!!

We have kicked around the idea of having another Calgary Chapter Reunion with Will Arnold, but to date, none of us has gotten off of our backsides and actually started working on it. I believe we will have to have a meeting and start getting in touch with others in our class. Time seems to fly by when you are having so much fun in your life, doesn't it. I also keep in touch with Shelley Soles and Maureen Perron on a regular basis, so maybe between the 3 of us and Will, we can finally get working on this reunion. I am looking forward to seeing everyone here again.  ......    Gail Lee C'70

How to know if you're fromMontreal  - Deb Myles

You pronounce it Muntreal, not Mahntreal.

You have ever said anything like I have to stop at the guichet before we get to the dep.

Your only concern about jaywalking is getting a ticket.

You understand and frequently use terms like unilingual, anglophone, francophone, and allophone.

You agree that Montreal drivers are crazy, but you're secretly proud of their nerves of steel.

The most exciting thing about the South
Shore is that you can turn right on a red.

You know that the West Island is not a separate geographical formation.

You have to bring smoked meat from Schwartz's and bagels from St-Viateur if you're visiting anyone west of Cornwall.

You refer to Tremblant as up North.

You know how to pronounce Pie IX.

Snowbird Reports

We stay at America Outdoors in Fort Myers for the winter. They recently had an Thompson FloridaInternational soup day and Marge and I made peasoup and represented Canada. We got some great stuff from the Canadian Consulate who had a display at the Snowbird Convention in Lakeland, Florida. We had Canadian flags tattooed on our arms and on my face, balloon hats (for which we stood in line for one hour to get made), a Mountie moose and raccoon among other things. We had Canadian facts posted on the wall along with a picture of Ron Ellis, which he autographed at the Snow Bird Convention. He also signed a puck for us. On the table we had Canadian Inventions, either listed on paper or actual displays, such as bowling pins and ball, basketball set, Robertson screw driver, etc.

We had a great time. The soup was a hit and we had the most colourful table. There were 10 countries represented. ............ Alan C'60 and Marge Thomson

I drove from Naples, Fla. across the #75, Alligator Alley over to Boca Raton to a British car show, I left here at 6:30am I was sitting eating breakfast at 9:30am, in an outside cafe, over looking the cars as they drove in. Palm trees all around, sunny warm Sunday morning 75f. It was made for me! That was a real fanticy world, seeing all the $$$$ around me. I mean at the grocery store, they have vallet parking.....crazy...

I believe there is more people with more money on the east coast then the west, because of the size of the boats parked in the house canal parking spots!!!!

Shame I'm alone to admire all the sites.

I tried for the 4th time to get on an air boat ride, at a Seminole indian village off #75 at an Indian reserve, a 2 hour wait! forget it..  another time.  I'm off to "Tin City" for a shoot after breakfast, should be interesting.. maybe take in a crusie for an hour or so along the coast.. we'll see, weather looks funny!  ........  Larry Llewellyn C'65

We just got back from the Dominican Republic a couple of weeks ago and it was very HOT there. So hot that we both got quite a sunburn the first couple of days. We are still shedding from it. The climate here in Calgary is so dry that dry skin in winter is the norm. Dry skin in winter with a sunburn underneath it, means you feel like a snake for several weeks till all the skin sheds. Sounds yucky eh? It's a source of annoyance, I say!

Letters to the Editor  the typist
Great newsletter and glad to have joined the Alumni Association.  I have been out of touch for so many years, nice that Dan Thompson tracked me down and encouraged me to get back into it.     Marc Demers C'79

Congratulations on a wonderful February Newsletter! My husband and I are both retired .  My husband, born in Iowa-USA, read the newsletter and was extremely impressed . He thoroughly enjoyed it , being to St. Lambert many times over the past 37 years that we have been married and us coming home to my parents and family in St. Lambert from Eagan. Minnesota, USA., the old homes - he was familiar with. Great fun! Thanks to Warren for those memories.    Wendy Beecher[ Green C'58]

I have enjoyed reading all of the CCH Association news and wish to partake in this association.  I have sent a cheque for membership.   I would like to congratulate you on your efforts as Webmaster and your continued efforts with maintaining the site.
Grant Chadsey (C'72)

Great job, again, on the newsletter. I look forward to each issue enjoying not only updates from my era but learning of those in others (mostly later) as well and all the bits on St. Lambert past and present. Super work with the photos, Warren. I know from personal experience the amount of time and effort it takes to put together a newsletter and a monthly is especially challenging. I, for one, truly appreciate what you are doing. Thank you!

Hope you are enjoying your trip to southern Cal, Angus, and are enjoying some warmer weather. I was in San Diego two weeks ago and it was colder than here in the northern part of the state but understand it has been warmer lately.
By the way, I am now having no problems with the website on my Mac and Safari browser. Thanks as well for making that possible.

Kudos to all who commit and contribute,  Janis Cotter C'58

Received Feb.24th. from Will Arnold C'70

My uncle, Charles Amyot, who was a French teacher for many years at CCHS, passed away this weekend at the age of 93. I am sure many of the older graduates will remember him, as he retired in the late 60's, about 40 years ago. There should be a notice in the Gazette this week.
