Sunday, Nov 15, 2009 --
What a great day . . . really! About a hundred people were present for the Eucharist. Isaac Fleming was baptized. Isaac LOVED the water in the Baptismal font and wanted more, and more, and more. . . could not have been more charming!
Seventeen adults were either Confirmed, Received, or Reaffirmed their faith. We ALL renewed the vows of our Baptism. At brunch Bishop Lee reminded us that, yes, we are called to be Christians witnesses in the world, but we are equipped for that witness through our life together as a community of Christians -- and, that is what St. Ann's is all about, especially on Sunday mornings!
The Thank You's are unending . . . thanks to Terree and the Choir, the Altar Guild, the Parish Life Group (especially Joan, Nancy, Rita, and Dinah -- and the spontaneous clean-up crew: Ricca, Duane, Rob, and so many others)! Thanks to Tim, Mike, and Alyssa for their presentations. The food at the brunch was outstanding! And, thanks to everyone for the perpetual-picking-up you do around the building and the property! (Howard even rid our grounds of the annual leaf-deposit.) And, simply thanks to everyone for all that we do day-in-and-day-out, week-in-and-week-out, and year-in-and-year-out!
Thanks, also -- to the Sunday School teachers, Counters, Green Group, Outreach Committee, Bread Bakers, Acolytes, Ushers, Readers, Chalice Bearers, WACM representatives, Needlepoint Group, Counters, Book Group, Coffee Hour Hosts, Lay Weeders, Building Committee, Vestry, Finance Committee and special project leaders and teams . . . and everyone else who work together to make life at St. Ann's exceptional. (Thanks to Patrice, too, for her volunteer work in the office, and her work with our membership records project.) I apologize to those I've fail to mention in the thank you list above! But, I simply must move on with this reflection.
Diocesan Convention: Mike White, Joan Purdy, Randy Wakitsch and I will be attending the Diocesan Convention in Lombard on Friday and Saturday of this week (20-21). Your prayers are appreciated as we participate with all the other parishes and missions in the Diocese of Chicago . . . celebrating our victories, planning our strategies, and in all things honoring God.
Stewardship: THANKS, to all who have submitted your pledge of financial support for next year. We are about halfway to our goal -- as far as the number of pledge responses go. Please, mail, or bring your pledge to St. Ann's as soon as possible. If you wish, you may make your 2010 pledge of financial support via e-mail.
Fire Safety Inspection: A number of people noticed the absence of the doorstop on that back door to the parish hall. For those who would like the doorstop replaced, I am sorry to announce that the Fire Department's inspection report for our building specifically requires that ALL doorstops be removed from the doors off the two stairwells. (This effects the choir room, the door by the Food Pantry collection area, the door on the second floor by the nursery, and that back door to the Parish Hall.) A couple other minor items will be resolved - other than that, your church building was found to be in good standing with the Fire Safety requirements. Good news, indeed!
Quicklinks: In the interest of brevity -- you'll find everything else on the St. Ann's website -- the calendar, Book Group selection, vestry listing, November birthdays and anniversaries, and even the schedules for Sunday readers, ushers, acolytes, chalice bearers, and coffee hour hosts. For your convenience, the Quicklinks to many these items are provided in the column to the left of this article. The Quicklinks may change from time to time. . . so keep an eye on them.
That's all for the moment. Watch your e-mail for further announcements now and then. God Bless You . . . Let us remember one another in prayer this week.
