September 13, 2009 Rector's Reflection

Back by popular demand . . . your St. Ann's Rector's Reflection.

I must admit, August simply did not give me an nanosecond for writing reflections.  But, here I am this afternoon, catching up and touching base.

Shadow
Some have been asking to see a photo of the Rector's new dog . . . and, so here is a picture of "Shadow."  She is a 13 year old retriever/lab mix, and her 90 year old owner recently died, and dear Shadow needed a home.  She will be at church now and then, but doesn't get into the car nearly as easily as little Pepper did.

Cathy Etheridge (vet) says Shadow has been well cared for and is in very good health for her age.  Shadow will certainly be around the church from time to time, and she will enjoy our next Pet Blessing service (October 4, 2009).  A big thank you to Carol and Duane Lahti who brought Shadow into our life.

This morning we literally opened the windows of the church -- it was soooooo beautiful outside.  After our annual "Instructed Eucharist" we enjoyed an incredibly delicious Parish Fall Kick-Off Brunch.  No, it wasn't our kickoff of the NFL season -- but, our kickoff of the our Fall programs at St. Ann's.

A few things to remember . . . very important dates . . .
-- next Sunday (9/20)  we change the Sunday schedule:
          8:30 Eucharist
          9:15 Sunday School
         10:00 Eucharist with Music

This WEDNESDAY - Calling night for Lobster Fest.  (6:30). Contact Tina Hill or Holly Emrich!

Thursday, Sept. 24 -- Bishop Joseph Atem, from Renk, Sudan, at St. Ann's. See all the details below.

If you were present this morning - thank you for contributing to the Liturgy's meaning.  If you were not present -- be safe in your travels, be rested in your activities, be well in body and spirit, and be at St. Ann's when next you are able.
Please, scroll down the announcements and articles below - you don't want to miss anything!  Thank you.
God Bless You!
Rev. Pat Conley

Outreach . . . food for hungry -- a SUMMER MINISTRY --

This summer, Woodstock Area Community Ministries (WACM), agreed to provide a lunch for 20 to 25 hearty appetites for the homeless folks using the PADS Kishwaukee Site facilities.  As an active member of  WACM, St. Ann's volunteers provided lunch for the people who stay and visit at the PADS Transitional Home. If you want to learn more about the home visit the McHenry County Pads web site

Our St. Ann's volunteers included Dinah Hoppe, Patrice Braun, Nancy Wright, Mary Keyse, Lisa Kelly and Randy Wakitsch.  All donated food, and others served it.  We menu included pulled pork sandwiches on buns, baked beans, watermelon, coleslaw, Mary's cookies and lemonade.

The people were very grateful for our generousity.  We also felt priveledged to be of help.  If you would like to help provide and/or deliver the food, please email Dinah Hoppe  or call [815-338-1360].
