"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."

- Abraham Lincoln
Greetings friends,

Consider the Abe Lincoln quote - above.  This sentiment has been quite on my mind of late.  Don't worry, there is no reason to fear that my years (or your years) might be "cut short" for some unthinkable reason -- it's just that I am becoming more aware of how important it is to create and/or discover quality, energy, excitement, and meaning in each and every day of my life.
Perhaps this awareness is a by-product of maturity.
I've also had the following little bumper-sticker phrase bouncing around in my head lately:

"St. Ann's may not add days to your life . . .
. . . but, it will certainly add life to your days!"

This remains true for me, as I will soon begin the fifth year of ministry in this parish.  The days and quality of my life are ever so greatly enriched by involvement in the life of St. Ann's!  I trust this is true for you as well.

As many of you may remember, summer is when we catch our breath (take a bit of vacation) and plan for the next calendar cycle -- which is the Church School & Choir "year" - September through May.

Terree Emrich is already making music and choir plans for the coming year.  Perhaps someone you know would like to be a part of the musical life of St. Ann's?  Now is the time to encourage them to contact Terree Emrich.  (815-338-1442)

And, some people have noticed that the number of young children on Sunday mornings is increasing.  What marvelous news!  Parents-of-young-children, please remember that your children are ALWAYS welcome in church.  We invite and encourage you to bring the babies and toddlers (and all the rest) any time you possibly can!  With that invitation comes the realization that those little angels will occasionally make gurgling noises unto the Lord now and then -- and, rest assured -- those are welcome sounds at St. Ann's.  (Even during the sermon - lol.)

Now, don't forget to scroll on down to all the announcements and news below . . . especially the information about the upcoming Parish Picnic, the August YARD SALE, preparing for our "Godly Play" and other Sunday School opportunities, and all the other events and activities that are just around the corner.

One more thing -- about Summer -- if you think you'll have a little extra watermelon any time soon -- I'd LOVE an invitation to drop by your home for a bit of lively conversation, vacation photos (yours, not mine) and watermelon!

And, don't forget how important it is to be in church at St. Ann's on Sunday morning, whenever you are in town!

Thank you, God Bless you, and -- See you in church!
      Rev. Pat Conley+

Marking Milestones

We give our thanks and ask God's special blessing for the significant events and passages, especially:
  •   for Brian Clow is planning to attend Middlebury College in Vermont this fall.
  • Natalie Armstrong is home from the hospital.
  • Clarence Langdon's ministry at St. Ann's while Rev. Conley was on vacation. - Thank him for this ministry.
  • The ministry of Lynn White, Randy Wakitsch, Howard McCarthy, and the Finance Committee -- and everyone else -- while Rev. Conley was on vacation.
  • Thank God that Santo & Kathy discovered the water in the church basement as quickly as they did, and that Howard McCarthy, Joan Purdy, Mike & Terree Emrich, Brian and Bill Clow, and others were so quick to respond to the call for help when the church basement flooded.
  • Thank God for good Church Insurance that should cover all but $500 of the basement flood damage.
Please, notify me of other "milestones" and "thanks" to inclusion in this column.  Thanks --

Cans for St. Ann's.
     cans for st anns
A wonderful recycling opportunity thanks to Howard McCarthy:
Simply place your aluminum cans in a plastic bag and place the bag outside the church's dumpster fence (on the right/west side). Howard will collect the cans and turn them into "cash" for St. Ann's.

Thank you, Howard!

scale Losing it for St. Ann's!

      The challenge is well underway.
This year 18 people have joined the challenge team.  The event officially started last Sunday, May 17th, and ends August 16th.

Because you care about our personal health  - and the financial health of St. Ann's ministries -- we ask you to pledge financial support based on our weight loss.    Your pledges create incredible incentive for the weight loss team.

EVERYONE wins in this event!

pura vida coffee
Mission-Oriented Coffee in St. Ann's Cups

You may have noticed that on most occasions we use real cups for coffee at St. Ann's (in lieu of paper products).  This is one of the small contributions we make towards a greener St. Ann's.

You may also have noticed that some time ago we changed the coffee we use as well.  We purchase our coffee from Pura Vida. Pura Vida is Fair Trade, Certified Organic and Shade Grown. Check out this quick video
that explains the Pura Vida philosophy.
The special private label "Bishop's Blend" coffees are doing double-good. These coffees are a joint fundraising venture that also benefit Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD). Our purchase of Bishop's Blend helps ERD meet needs worldwide. Episcopal Relief & Development receives 15% of the purchase price from the sale of each bag of Bishops Blend coffee.
On the third Sunday of each month the Green Group makes this same "Bishop's Blend" coffee available to the public for purchase.  Watch for the coffee sales table in our parish hall after the 9:30 Eucharist on these special Sundays.
