Lent V
Winter is back! Ugh! Even though it is officially "Spring" we were hit with more than 5 inches of snow overnight Saturday. Many people were unable to make it to church on Sunday. All the more reason to send today's "Rector's Reflection."
St. Ann's was served by The Rev. Lynn White this past Sunday, as I have been called to my mother's hospital bedside (in California). She (Ruth Conley) is in critical condition. Your prayers for her are greatly appreciated. I welcome this brief break from the ICU vigil to communicate to you the news of St. Ann's as we approach Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter.
I particularly wanted to send the schedule of services for April and to share the great news of Isaac Fleming and our Green Group (see the information below).
Remember, we will have one service only on April 5th (Palm Sunday), April 12th (Easter Sunday) and April 19th. Don't forget to take a look at the schedule of upcoming services and events, below.
See you in church, soon.

Isaac Fleming will soon be home!
Breaking news! Steve and Angela Fleming are in Korea -- at this very moment -- and as near as my calculations can figure, they may indeed be holding their new son for the very first time, right NOW!
An e-mail from the proud parents just this afternoon said this IS the day! As you can imagine, Steve and Angela are fill with excitement, joy, anticipation, and thanksgiving. They just say over and over again how grateful they are for the prayers and friendship of our St. Ann's congregation.
The happy family soon return to join us in church. If you'd like to sent them an e-mail greeting (for when they return) here's the link: Steve and Angela Fleming. Get ready for another baptism at St. Ann's! Thanks be to God! |
St. Ann's Green Team Project Gains Acclaim!
Our St. Ann's Green Team was recently featured in the Lutheran periodical, Living Earth.
Here is an excerpt of that article:
"When the members of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, in Woodstock, IL, conducted a green audit for the congregation, they identified stormwater management as a key concern for their congregation and community. In developed areas pollutants including car oil and lawn fertilizer easily run from impervious sources like roads, parking lots and roofs into stormwater drains, which, in turn, empty into nearby streams and ground water. To reduce pollution in their local water table, St. Ann's "Green Team" built a "Rain Garden" bioswale on the church's property. A bioswale is a drainage channel planted with vegetation that collects, filters and releases stormwater runoff."
Hooray for our St. Ann's Green Team ! ! ! For more information please contact Mike White. |
Easter Flower & Music Commemorations
Please RSVP your special Easter Flowers and Music Commemorations to me via this link: Rev. Conley Flowers/Music
As you may know, each Easter we receive special contributions for flowers and music, and we publish the list of commemorations related to those gifts. Allow me to make the first contribution this year - to support all the incredible music at St. Ann's in very special memory of Ruth Conley, my mother, who instilled in me my first understanding of Easter.
A basket with envelopes will be at the back of the Church this coming Sunday. For the purposes of printing the commemorations, please contact me now via the above link. Thanks so much. - Rev. Conley + |

| Lenten Outreach Project: Nets for Life -
Final Sunday - April 5th (Palm Sunday)
Just a reminder that this next Sunday, Palm Sunday, April 5th will be the final day our our Lenten Outreach Project: Nets for life. Envelopes are on the table display beside the net, for those who would still like to contribute.
Members of the Episcopal Church have a long history of educating the young in the developing world. The Church is a trusted partner in shaping the future of a village, which is why NetsforLifeŽ has been so effective at educating people about the importance of net use and other strategies to fight malaria. During this season of Lent, we pray especially for children in the developing world so they may enjoy a better future. St. Ann's is participating in a special Lenten project to reduce deaths due to malaria. One million people die from malaria each year and 75% of those who die are children under the age of 5.
Still, the answer to this enormous malaria threat is not a difficult or costly answer. At this point, the most effective remedy against malaria, involves the use of mosquito nets. The mosquito nets are hung over beds or mats, and most of the mosquito nets cover three people at time. The effectiveness of these mosquito nets against malaria is phenomenal. One net (that saves at least 3 lives) costs only $12.00 Check out the website: Nets for Life Africa -- and let's see how many lives St. Ann's can save. Thanks so much. Rev. Pat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

TOP STORIES 'I am Episcopalian' -- new 'microsite' showcases videos of diverse church members [Episcopal News Service] A communications initiative to tell the Episcopal Church's story was launched today -- Ash Wednesday -- at www.episcopalchurch.org where visitors will find a new interactive feature called "I Am Episcopalian." The so-called "microsite" contains short videos of people "sharing their deep, personal connections to the big, wide, vibrant church that we are," said Anne Rudig, who joined the Episcopal Church Center in New York as communications director on January 5. Not only will the videos illustrate the diversity of Episcopalians -- "all ages, all walks of life, all ethnicities," said Rudig -- but the site also will let users upload their own videos.
