Lent IV
Wecome to St. Ann's
What a wonderful morning at St. Ann's today.  Even though it is officially "Spring Break" in the school district - there were very many people in church.
We were nourished by the homily of Kent Jones, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, McHenry, and candidate for ordination to the diaconate in June.  Thank you, Kent.
As I anticipated, our choir's offering of "God so loved the world," by John Stainer was phenomenal.  And, it was not only the anthem that was stunning.  In fact, one person told me that when they heard the choir begin singing the Trisagion - she had to turn around to check . . . because it sounded like angels singing.  Thank you choir for your faithful ministry of musical offerings.
Bill & Becky Clow were ushers this morning.  The two Anna's (Blaho and Zaino) were wonderful acolytes, especially helpful in the absence of both of our seasoned Worship Assistants (Howard is ill, and Randy is recovering from surgery).  Duane Lahti & Tina Hill were readers, and Jeff & Susie Scott were chalice bearers.  We were well provided for by the Zaino Family as Coffee Hour hosts.  Thanks to all who served and worshiped and prayed together this morning.
Marie Blaho was with us at 9:30, and Spin Bowe at 8:00. It was a joy to see them both.  I received a wonderful new drawing from Quinn Killinger (7 yrs old) this morning.   It was a very good likeness of the inside and the outside of St. Ann's church.  Thank you Quinn.
Just a "heads up" that we will have one service only on April 5th (Palm Sunday), April 12th (Easter Sunday) and April 19th.  Don't forget to take a look at the schedule of upcoming services and events, below.
Finally, if you were unable to be at St. Ann's this morning -- we missed you.
     See you in church, soon.

Lenten Outreach Project:  Nets for Life  - Update

Members of the Episcopal Church have a long history of educating the young in the developing world. The Church is a trusted partner in shaping the future of a village, which is why NetsforLifeŽ has been so effective at educating people about the importance of net use and other strategies to fight malaria.
Because of NetsforLifeŽ's efforts in its target countries, overall net use increased from 12% to 88% for children and pregnant women, the most vulnerable groups. One million nets were distributed; legions of malaria agents were educated and treated; and thousands of lives were saved.
During this season of Lent, we pray especially for children in the developing world so they may enjoy a better future.
St. Ann's is participating in a special Lenten project to reduce deaths due to malaria.  We know that malaria is totally preventable, yet every day, malaria claims the lives of nearly 3,000 children in sub-Saharan Africa alone.  Malaria kills a child every 30 seconds, but it doesn't have to!  Malaria is one of the deadliest preventable diseases on the planet.  It's caused by a parasite that is transmitted by mosquitoes that typically bite their victims at night.  One million people die from malaria each year and 75% of those who die are children under the age of 5.
Still, the answer to this enormous malaria threat is not a difficult or costly answer.  At this point, the most effective remedy against malaria, involves the use of mosquito nets.  The mosquito nets are hung over beds or mats, and most of the mosquito nets cover three people at time.  The effectiveness of these mosquito nets against malaria is phenomenal.
At the Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, this past November our bishop - Jeffery Lee - laid down the challenge for our diocese to raise the funds necessary to purchase one mosquito net per Episcopalian in our diocese.  St. Ann's is taking up Bishop Lee's challenge.  And, we will have a display in the parish hall by this coming Sunday - with lots of information to share about this Lenten outreach project.  One net (that saves at least 3 lives) costs only $12.00

Nets for Life Africa -- and let's see how many lives St. Ann's can save.  Thanks so much.   Rev. Pat

'I am Episcopalian' -- new 'microsite' showcases videos of diverse church members
[Episcopal News Service] A communications initiative to tell the Episcopal Church's story was launched today -- Ash Wednesday --  at
www.episcopalchurch.org where visitors will find a new interactive feature called "I Am Episcopalian."
The so-called "microsite" contains short videos of people "sharing their deep, personal connections to the big, wide, vibrant church that we are," said Anne Rudig, who joined the Episcopal Church Center in New York as communications director on January 5.
Not only will the videos illustrate the diversity of Episcopalians -- "all ages, all walks of life, all ethnicities," said Rudig -- but the site also will let users upload their own videos.
