I love serving at St. Ann's in Woodstock. Thank you for the opportunity.
This morning we experienced a prayerful service with Eucharist and wonderful music. I wish to thank Jeff Scott for his inspirational sermon.
We remembered in special prayer those engaged in government service. Obviously our thoughts and prayers continue with the events in Washington D.C. this week.
Call or e-mail me with any news or questions you may have.
God Bless You.

In Quietness and in Confidence shall be our Strength . . .
Today is marked as "Epiphany 2B" on our church calendar, an inauspicious "green" Sunday that falls after all the grandeur of Advent, Christmas, Holy Name (Jan 1st), Epiphany (Jan 6), Baptism of Our Lord (last Sunday). Yet, in Christendom today begins the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25). In some circles today is Human Relations Day. Tomorrow marks our national observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, And, of course, Tuesday is Inauguration Day. Global economic woes and political unrest abound. This is a week that begs all Christians to faithful prayer, daily prayer. I encourage each one to continue in earnest prayer for our community, our country, and our world. Here is a prayer for us to use this week, regarding the Presidential inauguration on Tuesday: Lord, almost all the world will be observing the inauguration of Barak Obama as President of the United States on Tuesday. We pray that the occasion runs without mishap. We pray for this presidency, and we pray for all those who are taking on new jobs in service for their country. We pray that you will bless them and guide them as they learn to use their new authority for the good of all American people. Amen. |

St. Ann's Parish Annual Meeting - - A Feast!
Following our 9:30 Eucharist this morning we enjoyed our Parish Annual Meeting and Champagne Brunch. The parish hall was simply full of fabulous people, laughter, and of course - great food. Thank you Nancy Phillips and Joan Purdy for planning the Brunch. And, thanks to everyone else who helped out in every conceivable way . . . serving, cleaning . . .etc. Yes, the food and fellowship was great - but we also conducted the necessary parish business. We thanked outgoing Sr. Warden Nancy Phillips for her incredible service to St. Ann's. We extended appreciation to Jackie Smithson and Ruth Cotton for their work as Clerk and Treasurer, respectively. And, we expressed our deepest appreciation to Susie Scott, Alan Hill, Nancy Wright, and Ruth Cotton for their faithful service on the Vestry. Next we elected the slate of Wardens & Vestry members proposed by the Nominating Committee. Affirming Mike White as Sr. Warden for 2009. Voting to elect Joan Purdy as Jr. Warden, and four new vestry members: Mary Keyse, Tim Killinger, Steve Fleming, and Randy Wakitsch. Everyone received copies of our written Annual Report, and once again the Rector's Annual Report was in visual format - a fifteen minute slide show that was displayed continually, at both ends of the parish hall, all morning long. Please call or e-mail me if you would like a printed copy of our Annual Report, and/or a DVD with the 2008 slide show. Just send me an e-mail, or give me a call (815-355-6840). |

The Febuary selection for the Book Group is The White Tiger, a novel set in India by Aravind Adiga. The group will meet at Victoria & Vince Castillo's home at 4 pm on Sunday, February 22, 2009.
The group enthusiastically welcomes new members. We will look forward to our discussions in April. |
Speaking of Books . . .
I am intrigued with a book recommended to me this morning. So intrigued, in fact, that I'll be picking it up at our local bookstore to read. If anyone else reads this book, I'd love to hear what you think of it. Title: "You don't have to be wrong for me to be right" - author, Rabbi Brad Hirschfield. |
Looking Ahead . . .
January 23-24 ADULT SPIRITUAL LIFE

All are invited, whether or not you attend the previous session(s). Also, the Friday and Saturday sessions are independent, so you need not attend both for the opportunity to be meaningful.
