Where Two or Three Gather

I don't happen to think the Risen Christ promised to be quantitatively more present with two or three people than with one--or that he is present in a special way. But I am convinced he means that if I choose to live my Christian life alone, there are great limitations to what God can say or do or be in my life. But if I have chosen to be accountable to a few people, to meet with them and talk about life as I see God unfolding it to me, then God has a chance to hold up a mirror and show me who I am.

  • Imuka Singers Concert on June 16
  • Imuka Singers

The Imuka Singers brought great energy and beautiful music to worship last Sunday. Led by Mount Olivet member Smart Baitani, choir members are from Bukoba, Tanzania. This 30-person choir is made up of highly talented musicians and dancers representing a dozen community groups from the northwestern shores of Lake Victoria. Imuka brings together rare singing techniques, electrifying choreography, hand drumming and multiple percussions, as well as traditional dancing techniques that are adopted from the oldest East African folk songs and dances. Imuka's purpose extends far beyond music - it was out of concern for the less fortunate members of their communities that Imuka Singers was born. Portions of all Imuka earnings go towards community health, education, and micro-enterprise initiatives to help partner communities in Bukoba. The Imuka Singers will return to Mount Olivet to present a concert in the Fireside Room on Thursday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. The concert is a fundraiser for COSAD (Community Solutions for Africa's Development). Plan to attend and support the singers and COSAD's work in Tanzania. To learn more about the Singers, why they sing and the passion they have for improving the lives of everyone in their community, check out this video link.

  • Seen & Heard: A Tree for Barrett
  • Barrett's tree

Last Wednesday the Armstrong High School community took time to remember and honor Barrett Ugland, who died in a tragic accident two years ago. A tree was planted in Barrett's honor, a tangible promise that the school community, specifically Barrett's classmates in the graduating class of 2011, will always remember him.
