IPSO Alliance Newsletter Chairman's Message
2011 has been a banner year for IPSO. We have made great strides in the maturity of the Alliance. We have passed 55 member companies, added a new committee, brought on a new marketing team, seated a new TAB, restarted our interoperability testing, started our social media campaign and launched our new newsletter. You will read more about each of these areas in this newsletter. We've added 16 new members in 2011 and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome them to the IPSO Alliance: Bii Group, GreenWave Reality, ST Microelectronics, Cilab, Consumers Energy, Econocom, ElectroTest Sweden AB, Iota Computing, ISMB, Maxim Integrated Products, Motorola, Sensus, Smart Dutch, Symphony Networks, Synapse Wireless, and TMC. Globally, these companies represent China, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the United States. With our success in 2011, we have much to do in 2012. While few would argue that the US Smart Grid will be solidly based on IP, there are many facets of the smart energy program where companies are still trying to push proprietary protocols. It is important for us to continue to extol the benefits of IP architecture. Other industries are much further behind in adopting IP. We will be working with the BACnet community to help push the use of IP in the commercial building space. We will continue to support our partners building industrial systems based on IP. We need to expand our efforts in health care and home automation to ensure that our message about the advantages of an "IP to the edge" network is brought to the community.
It is important for us all to recognize and remember that we are a global organization with members from most every region of the world. As such, I am pleased to announce that we are working on our plans for our Spring 2012 meeting in Paris, France on April 2nd and 3rd. More details about the specific location and hotel will be coming shortly.
As we move into the next year we will be looking to our committees, our TAB and our members to help us identify areas where we can impact technology choices and where we can best spend our time and effort in educating and marketing the Internet of Things.
Remember that this is YOUR Alliance. If you feel we are missing some area, speak up and get involved!
We're looking forward to a productive 2012! -Geoff Mulligan Chairman of the IPSO Alliance

Fall Member Meeting Summary Our Fall member meeting was held at the Google campus in Mountain View, California. Thanks to Google and Vint Cerf for sponsoring us.
We held the meeting in conjunction with a very successful press event and member product demonstration. Not only were we able to increase the awareness of the Alliance and the availability of IP technology, the event generated a number of independent articles. With the outstanding review of the press event and product demonstrations we will look at doing this again. More about this will be in the Marcom committee update in this newsletter....Continue Reading
