Cleaning Up Internal Compliance Practices
The Department of Labor is actively investigating employers in a variety of areas, including wage and hour complaints, charges relating to employee leave practices, accommodation requests, background checks, and retaliation, and OFCCP compliance evaluations. What can you do to limit exposure before the DOL comes knocking at your door? Now more than ever, it is time to take a closer look at your internal employment practices, and make the changes necessary to ensure that you are implementing "best practices."
This presentation will consider the DOL's increasing areas of focus with respect to wage and hour requirements, EEO laws, and OFCCP requirements, and discuss opportunities to "clean up" your policies and practices to ensure ongoing compliance. Elizabeth A. Schallop Call, an attorney specializing in employment law and OFCCP compliance, accompanied by Leslie Solondz, Senior Director of Employment Practices and Compliance for Republic Services, will walk through the many policies and practices in place in organizations today, and highlight opportunities to tighten up compliance efforts, such as FLSA exempt/non-exempt classification of jobs, employee versus independent contractor determinations, leave policies, accommodation policies, complaint procedures, background checks, tracking personnel activity, and record keeping policies. |
