New iPad With "Retina Display": Your Video In HD Quality Via The Source
Apple have just presented the new iPad at a special event, with CEO Tim Cook boasting some impressive facts and figures. The iPad, with Apple, claims Cook, is leading the "Post-PC revolution" where we rely more and more on portable devices for our everyday computer needs such as e-mails and internet usage. One of the most impressive features of the new iPad is the "retina display" screen which has 3.1 (2048 x 1536) million pixels, thus boasting a higher screen resolution than an HDTV. Indeed, for watching VOD content, the portable tablet form has often been a more attractive option for consumers than a desktop PC, with the viewer confined to a desk in a corner or a separate room. Now, for the first time, HD video quality can be enjoyed in full glory on a portable device. The added detail, brilliance and sharpness will make the iPad even more attractive for VOD and live streaming. According to Apple, 172 million devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod) were sold in 2011, and pre-sales of the new iPad (due for release later this month) have already sold out. If figures like these continue even for a short while, the iPad is clearly going to become an ever more omni-present device in homes around the world. The release of the new iPad, together with the upcoming release of the new Apple TV settopbox (where you can link the iPad to your television) are indicating a very bright future for live streaming and VOD in general. This makes it the perfect time to jump on the video distribution bandwagon and make use of The Source's extensive video (VOD & live streaming) platforms, offering video distribution through websites, apps and via our exclusive APIs. For an example of how VOD and live streaming can work for you, check out the website for our partner The Concert Channel. If you have any video content that you would like to exploit, please contact us.
