Update on Budget

At the April PTA meeting, the membership voted to provide the new school's PTA $5,500 for start-up costs. The amount was recommended by the PTA Executive Board after discussions with Mrs. Pulliam, Mr. Heatwole, Montgomery County Council of PTAs, and the Maryland State PTA. The money will help the new PTA get what it needs to get established before the beginning of the school year. You can see the budget by clicking here. The Oakland Terrace PTA will have roughly$17,000 (click here for current budget).
Several parents have suggested that the money be more evenly split between the two schools. The PTA Executive Board took these suggestions seriously and met again with the two principals. After a lengthy discussion, the board (3 of whom will be staying at OTES and 3 who will be moving to the new school), and both principals, were unanimous that the current split makes the most sense.
The reason for this decision is that Oakland Terrace PTA may need the additional money to support the school with items that the new school will already receive. Because it's a new building for example, the new school will have promethean boards in each classroom. Currently, OTES has promethean boards in the kindergarten rooms and the media center. Another example is that the book collection in the new school's media center will be completely new. In contrast, Oakland Terrace's collection has been worn down because of the overcrowding the past few years. Mr. Heatwole will provide more details about this issue at Tuesday's PTA meeting.

Volunteers Needed
DCC #29 will be hosting kindergarten orientation next Wednesday, May 2nd all day, and in the morning of Thursday, May 3rd. It will be held at the satellite campus at Sligo Middle.
We are hopeful to find a few parent volunteers to act as greeters and take the children's pictures. Anyone interested and able to help should email Ingrid Vargas, Mr. Heatwole's administrative secretary, at Ingrid_G_Vargas@mcpsmd.org. |

 Save the Date for End of Year Picnic
Oakland Terrace will have an end of the year family picnic on the evening of Thursday, May 31st. This will be the final celebration with the full school. We'll send more details soon. |

We still need someone to be Treasurer-elect for Oakland Terrace. So, if you are good at math or accounting, or do an ample job keeping your own books in order, please consider the position.
