Happy Holidays OTES Family!Ornaments

The winter holidays are a favorite time of year that bring about reflection, appreciation, and celebration with loved ones. Thank you OTES parents for your tireless commitment in enriching the lives of the OTES community. Your support has helped the PTA jump into action implementing fun activities for the kids, such as Movie Night and a book fair leading to a magic show, to meetings that provide key information on school and county initiatives.

Our last meeting in November covered many topics of interest, including a new behavior program presented by Mrs. Cheryl Pulliam, Principal of OTES. This program incorporates elements of the previous 6 pillars behavior program, but children now earn Pulliam bucks when reaching various color targets of good behavior. Another topic discussed included tips on preparing for parent-teacher conferences. To review details of these presentations and other topics please click here to view the draft minutes from the November 1, 2011 PTA meeting.

Buckle your seat belts, because we're going to soar in 2012. May you all have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Our next PTA meeting is Wednesday, January 4, 2012.

BREAKING NEWS!

Next Steps for New School DCC #29

Families were notified over the past few weeks about who would be attending the new school next year and who would be staying at OTES.  On December 6, over 120 parents attended a meeting with Community Superintendent Bronda Mills to hear about next steps and to let her know what is important to this community when hiring a new principal. Mrs. Mills promised to provide answers to all our questions in January, once the new principal is on board. However, she did provide responses to some questions. Click here to learn more.

There's a New Sheriff in Town

(For 6 weeks only)

Debbie Ryan

The New Year will commence with Mrs. Ryan serving as our school's principal for six weeks, which is a requirement of her training to become a principal. Her three years of training to become a principal ends in March 2012.  We wish her much success in her new role.  During this period, Mrs. Pulliam will be supporting the principal intern at Luxmanor Elementary School in Montgomery County.  We wish her the best and look forward to her return soon.

    New Superintendent Sets His Priorities

Superintendent Joshua P. Starr is recommending a $2.1 billion operating budget for Fiscal Year 2013. Please visit http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/budget/  to watch his presentation in English or Spanish.

Kristin Trible, President of the Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (MCCPTA), reacted to the proposed FY 2013 Operating Budget announced by Superintendent Joshua P. Starr: "Recognizing the continued fiscal constraints under which we are operating, Dr. Starr's proposed budget is good for students, employees, and schools, and good for Montgomery County. The proposed budget protects the classroom from further cuts with no reductions to school-based staff.  Please click here for further details.
