The last page of the packet is the Jumping Jack Form.  Please follow the instructions on the form and email or fax the Jumping Jack application back to DCASE. They have informed us that jumping jacks are no longer available for new Saturday applicants, but there are still slots available for Sunday for those of you who haven't yet completed your block party application.

Please return the rest of the packet to the 47th Ward Office in-person.  If you have any questions, please call or email the 47th Ward Office.

Dear Neighbor,

This was a very busy week in the ward! Here are some updates on major projects led by the 47th Ward office:

The Bell Elementary School Addition

I am happy to announce the Bell School addition is moving along smoothly. The Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC) is the agency charged with finalizing the design and the bid/awards. As of the end of June, the PBC planning phase was 85% complete. My office led the effort with the PBC, Chicago Public Schools and the Bell principal Sandra Caudill to ensure the Bell student community can utilize the new space in 2014.  You can now follow this project on Twitter @PBCChi #Bell.

Cubs Park and Clark Park

The Cubs Park at Clark Park project is moving forward! My office is working with the Chicago Cubs and the Clark Park Advisory Council to schedule ground breaking in September 2012! We will let you know when a date has been finalized. We are also working with the Clark Park Advisory Council and the Chicago Park District to bring additional enhancements to the entire Clark Park. To view the Cubs Park design, click here

Lawrence Avenue Streetscape & Mariano's Grocery/L.A. Fitness

Elements of the streetscape project along Lawrence are currently out for bid. Once the bid process is completed, we anticipate a late 2012/early 2013 construction start. To view the Lawrence Avenue streetscape design, click here

My office is in the final phases of completing the Ravenswood Station (Mariano's/L.A. Fitness) project for City Council introduction. If all goes as planned, construction will begin in the late fall. My office is holding meetings with all public and private entities involved to ensure all the capital projects in the area are coordinated to reduce impacts to the community. To view the Mariano's/L.A. Fitness building design, click here.

Lycée Français de Chicago (The French International School)

This week, to prepare for the demolition of the old Ravenswood Hospital, Lycée Français de Chicago (LFC) began the environmental remediation process. Asbestos abatement began on Monday and will continue in the coming weeks. Once all the remediation steps are complete, the building will be ready for demolition.

LFC created a committee of residents to work on issues related to the environmental remediation, demolition, construction, and traffic. This will ensure the community is involved throughout the process. Additionally, LFC has partnered with my office to limit the disruptions to the community during the demolition and construction process.

Lycée Français de Chicago is going to be a great addition to the ward. I am looking forward to the school's opening in 2015. To view drawings of the new school, click here.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Jim in my office.

We will continue to update you on these projects in this newsletter and on our website. I will have additional updates on other major projects soon.

My office has worked very hard to move all of these major projects during my first year in office. Now, we are looking forward to managing various elements of these projects so we can realize all of them in a timely manner.

I hope you will join me at the 8th Annual Lincoln Square Garden Walk tomorrow!  Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Ameya

Dara's Report

As you walk around the neighborhood are you noticing the lovely corner gardens that our neighbors are working on all over the ward? Not only are they a lovely enhancement to our blocks, but they also help keep rainwater out of the sewers during these summer deluges we've been having. Interested in learning more about corner gardens for your block? Contact Dara at 773-549-2735 or dara@chicago47.org.
