Block Party and Jumping Jack Forms
Planning a block party for the summer?  The forms are available on our

The last page of the packet is the Jumping Jack Form.  Please follow the instructions on the form and email or fax the Jumping Jack application back to DCASE. They have informed us that jumping jacks are no longer available for new Saturday applicants, but there are still slots available for Sunday for those of you who haven't yet completed your block party application.

Please return the rest of the packet to the 47th Ward Office in-person.  If you have any questions, please call or email the 47th Ward Office.
Street Sweeping
Residential street sweeping continues through November.  To see the complete schedule, click here.

Dear Neighbor,

Recently, 47th Ward resident Julie Peterson and a group of 18 dedicated neighbors and environmental experts formed the 47th Ward Green Council. This council will work with neighborhood associations, the 47th Ward Council and other ward organizations on the following issues: solar energy programs, biodiversity and prairie projects, tree inventories and ways to promote existing green programs in the ward. The Green Council will be working closely with Ernie Constantino in our office. To learn more about their efforts, click here.

Permit Parking

Prior to my taking office, a number of permit parking zones were changed, removed, and added without neighborhood input, petitions or proper documentation. Zone numbers varied and were not consistent throughout the neighborhood. In addition, it seems that for some time the procedures for obtaining, removing and altering parking zones were never consistently used.  It's unclear why these changes took place when they did, but my office has taken steps to fix the permit parking problems in the ward.

Bill Higgins worked with the 47th Ward Transportation Committee, residents and block clubs to develop parameters for adding permit parking. They also created clear guidelines for how to add, remove or alter parking zones. Bill's work led to the consolidation of permit zones.  In Lincoln Square and Ravenswood, we consolidated seven permit parking zones into two neighborhood zones (# 62 and #92). With the exception of one zone, all the time restrictions in the zones remained the same. By consolidating zone numbers, residents in these zones have more parking options. If you pay for permit parking, you will now have greater access to parking in Lincoln Square and Ravenswood. Consolidating zones also makes enforcement easier and reduces administrative costs.

This fall, Bill will be holding additional information sessions on the remaining parking zones in the ward. He will be reaching out to block clubs and neighborhood associations to discuss permit parking issues in North Center. For more information, email bill@chicago47.org. You can also download the permit parking presentations from this webpage . Take a look at the permit parking map below.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
Ameya

City of Chicago Sustainable Backyard Program
Please consider taking part in the Sustainable Backyard Program.  This program helps to create an environmentally friendly landscape in your yard, parkway or street corner.  Planting a tree or using a rain barrel can make a positive impact on our neighborhood and our city.  For more information, please click here.
Tax Bill Payment Due August 1st

In February this year you may have received the Long Term Exemption and/or the Senior Tax Exemption forms. These exemptions give you the most money back on your property tax bill so it's very important that you complete the forms as soon as possible (especially given the fact that the tax bills were sent out on time for the first time in years). 99% of folks will not lose their Long Term Exemption; however you must fill out and return the form yearly. If you did not receive and/or return the exemptions, please call 312-603-6380 or 312-603-4210 for additional assistance.

Ravenswood Outdoor Movie Nights
Toy Story is about to hit Ravenswood!  On July 21st, the original Toy Story will be screened and Toy Story 3  will be screened on August 4th.  On both evenings, there will be all kinds of Toy Story candy and prizes for families on the lawn - event a life size cardboard Buzz and Wood for photo ops with the whole family!
Toy Story Photo Op

Each month in summer an outdoor family-friendly movie is featured for the folks in our community. Two hours before dusk, the music starts, free BBQ is served, lawn games are enjoyed, all while people chat and mingle. After dusk, the outdoor cinema rolls. Yes - there is even an industrial sized outdoor popcorn machine. The lawn space is located at Bethany UCC, 4250 N Paulina. Free parking in the lot of Ravenswood Elementary, a nice perk when you're bringing blankets, folding chairs, etc.

Mark your calendars and spread the word! Click here for more information .
