Dear Neighbor,
Today I greeted over 400 seniors at a luncheon to help kick-off this weekend's Maifest. I want to give recognition to the Maifest Committee, DANK Haus, and Bach and Beyond for graciously hosting the event with us and providing volunteers to prepare brats and side dishes. I also want to thank Gene's Sausage Shop for donating all the bratwursts for today's luncheon. I was thrilled that 35 neighborhood volunteers joined the 47th Ward Team and 47th Ward Senior Council to serve lunch and hand out the drawing prizes which came from many of our wonderful neighborhood businesses. Without the generous support of our neighbors, businesses and residents alike, these events would not be possible and I am humbled by how this community continues to support our seniors. Thank You! To see a full list of those who supported today's event, please click here.
Tonight Maifest officially begins and the stretch of Leland Avenue between Lincoln and Western will be transformed into a celebration of springtime and German culture. The schedule of weekend festivities can be viewed at www.MayFestChicago.com. Arguably, the 47th Ward has more festivals and events than any other ward. Next on the summer line-up are: Lincoln Square Tuesday Morning Farmers Market, begins June 5 RibFest Chicago, June 8-10 Lincoln Square Thursday Evening Concert Series, begins June 14 Lincoln Square Thursday Evening Farmers Market, begins June 14 Northcenter Saturday Morning Farmers Market, June 16 Northcenter Garden Walk, June 16 Welles Park Tuesday Evening Concert Series, begins June 19 Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club Family Fest & Carnival, June 27-July 1 BenFest, July 13-14 NEW! Square Roots Fest, July 20-22 Lincoln Square Garden Walk and Greenfest, August 4 North Side Summerfest, August 18-19 Ravenswood Remix, September 1-2 As we get more information on these we'll let you know, and let us know any feedback you have regarding the events. I hope that you will take time to enjoy at least one of the many festivals this summer, and I hope to see you around the neighborhood. Have a safe and happy weekend. Sincerely,

Grid-Based Garbage Pickup Coming to the 47th Ward
Beginning June 11th, the City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation will be implementing grid garbage pickup for the first time. This system will increase efficiency and productivity and will save approximately $20 million in operational costs. We will be posting notice of this change in parks, the library and in other high-traffic areas throughout the ward. As you can see from the map below, areas in green will be picked-up on Wednesdays, areas in purple will be picked-up on Thursdays and areas in yellow will be picked-up on Fridays. Notices will be placed on garbage carts the week prior to the transition notifying residents of the new pickup date. Note: This only effects garbage pickup from black carts. The blue cart schedule for recycling remains unchanged.
Ald. Pawar will continue working closely with the Department of Streets and Sanitation to ensure that this transition takes place as seamlessly as possible. If you have any questions, or need further information please contact Jim Poole in the 47th Ward Office at 773-549-4462 or jim@chicago47.org. To see the entire press release from the City of Chicago, please click here. For a printable version of the 47th Ward schedule, please click here. Dog Registration - It's a Must!
Municipal Code 7-12-140 requires all dogs four months and older be registered with the City. Dogs must be registered in order to stay at dog boarding and daycare service facilities. Dog registration is a prerequisite for acquiring permission to enter Chicago Park District dog-friendly areas. Dogs must have a current rabies vaccination. Get your dog vaccinated at any Chicago area veterinarian clinic or other licensed provider. Your dog's registration expires on either the registration expiration date (i.e. 1 or 3 years after purchase, depending on the length you purchase) or the expiration date of its current rabies vaccination, whichever comes first. Since rabies vaccinations typically last either one or three years (depending on the vaccination administered by your dog's vet), the clerk's office offers dog registration in 1-year and 3 year increments. Visit the Chicago City Clerk's website for more information. |

They aim to take the guess work out of eveything. All you have to do is pick your class - Family Boot Camp or Team Thrive Family - and they handle the rest.
They are having some great promotions this weekend to celebrate their grand opening.
