Changes in
Duration of Florida Unemployment Benefits
Effective January 1, 2012

For all claims filed on or after January 1, 2012, the duration of benefits adjusts from the current maximum of 26 weeks to a range of 12 to 23 weeks, based upon the average unemployment rate in Florida for the third calendar quarter of the previous year.

The change in duration of benefits is projected to save the state's Unemployment Trust Fund an estimated $103 million annually.

You can find complete information on the Department of Economic Opportunity's website for Unemployment Compensation.

The Results Are In!

On November 2, 2011, 538 library locations of all types collected statistics, pictures and stories from users to show what a typical day in the life of a Florida Library looked like. More than 2,600 people used their libraries to look for jobs and almost 2,300 got help applying for government benefits. You can find complete results at Florida Library Association's Snapshot Day website.

HelpWanted

Libraries are reporting that some government agencies will only accept patrons' supporting documents by fax. Are you aware of any trends or rulings that will allow agencies to accept scanned documents as well?

Please send your suggestions, ideas or resources, along with any requests for assistance, to Pam Thompson at [email protected].

This program is made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Florida Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.
