Moving from Surviving to Thriving: Highlights from Project Compass
Join the Project Compass team as they review the highlights from the workshops and the actions libraries have taken as a result of the project. They'll look at successful strategies and discuss what lies ahead for libraries.
I know libraries are challenged each and every day to provide more with less - more access and assistance with fewer staff and resources - but librarians are proving to be incredibly resourceful as they find ways to meet these challenges.

"NJ works @ your library" is the New Jersey State Library's new public awareness campaign reminding job seekers that the public library is the place to go to find the resources needed for landing that new job.
The campaign focuses on four key resources that all libraries offer for free. Resources include:

Access to online job applications
Resume writing classes
Librarians across the country are encouraged to download tools from the New Jersey campaign for local use. Materials have been rebranded with the new logo "USA works @ your library," reflecting what libraries across the country are doing to meet the needs of job seekers.
The Division of Library and Information Services has produced several webinars on topics relating to workforce recovery, including legal information for libraries, serving seniors, creating partnerships, and most recently, the new unemployment compensation procedures. Recordings for these and other E-Government webinars can be found online.
WebJunction also maintains a listing of archived webinars relating to library services in difficult economic times as well as a series of short videos on topics to help library staff respond to the increased demands by job-seekers.
Unemployment Compensation Webinar
Clarification: Saving an application
Patrons have 72 hours to access their unemployment compensation application if their browser remains open. The information cannot be saved when the browser is closed. If a patron exits the unemployment compensation application before completing the application, the information will be lost.
The Agency for Workforce Innovation has been notified and will change their statement. We apologize for the confusion.

Help Wanted
Patrick Reaves from Orange County Library System shared their Job Search History Record to help job seekers track their progress. Orange County is looking for ideas about what to include in a sheet that job seekers can use as they build a network of contacts.
Several people are looking for ideas on how they can increase awareness of the services they offer to job seekers.
Wanted: a checklist for the newly unemployed. Phil Hackman shared a brochure the Martin County Library System created. Other ideas?
There was a request for information about how to help patrons identify predatory credit reporting companies.
