Want to start you own Color Club with your mini group or a handful of like-minded quilting friends? My book is broken down into a series of easy-to-grasp concepts and strategies, with "Give It a Try!" exercises and lots of "Color Cues." Eight projects let you put the theory into practice, and a gallery of quilts will motivate and inspire you. Everything you need to know is here, but if you'd like more getting-started guidance, simply e-mail me and I'll help!

Color Cues
bridging colors

Colors have a "visual temperature." Reds, yellows, and oranges are considered warm, while blues, greens, and violets seem cool. I refer to green and violet as "bridging colors" because each contains both a warm and a cool color. (Green is made up of warm yellow and cool blue. Violet is made up of warm red and cool blue.) If your quilt is lacking something, try introducing green or violet.

In the King's Crown block above, the violet is true, while the green striped fabric in the corners is a yellow-green. A cool, light-value background tones down the warmer hues.

Colorful Collage Vest

love fabric collage! This recent vest is based on my "Kimono Collage Vest" pattern. When the collage is surface stitched and washed, it takes on a wonderful crinkly texture. It's amazing how the stitching modulates the color and makes disparate patterns look cohesive. Students in this workshop can use any vest pattern without darts. Some students go in a different direction, creating their "fabric" to make a satchel or purse.

Coming in the Next Issue. . .

"Things I Love," a visual collection of have-to-have fabrics and other goodies that inspire me (and just make me happy).

FACQs, that is, frequently asked color questions.  Each month I'll answer a color question submitted by a reader. If your question is chosen, you'll receive "Christine's Color Wheel," an 8 1/2" x 11" photo of my fabric color wheel printed on archival photo paper, plus a four-page cardstock brochure. It looks great on a studio wall and comes in handy when you're planning a quilt or you just get "stuck." So,

e-mail a color question to me!

Details on my upcoming two-day workshop on Transparency, Sugar Pine Quilt Shop, June 25 & 26.

If you've received this newsletter, you probably attended one of my workshops or bought one of my books, patterns, or color wheels. It's easy to opt out, below, but I hope you'll stick around for a few issues and see what's in store. It's all about color, using it, enjoying it, and sharing it with other quilters!

Thank-you!
