In the Spotlight
Ashley Harris '10, '11
MVC Volunteer
Mercy Wings Vocational Centre and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital
Guyana, South America
"I was thinking about how it is now the end of our community of three and into our community of four. I want to thank Audrey and Sarah for all of the grace they have given me this year. We have stood united through so many different trials and it is because of them that I am a better person than I was a year ago. I came into MVC praying that we would get along - and now I am thanking God for two of my best friends.
I think of them as family because we stand united. I sometimes hate the phrase: "Well it's their life; whatever is best for them is best for them." Families and communities need to stand united on decisions. If they don't stand together there is going to be tension and anger. If we were all just islands - it would be fine - but our decisions impact other people and we need to be conscious of this. Sometimes we are unwilling to listen to other people and understand their perspective. A family divided only breeds hate - not love. Make decisions based on what is best for everyone in the situation and remember to listen, we all have problems with listening. Speak your truth, listen to the truth of others and be open to a new outcome."

Institute Justice Team
The Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas call us to "intensify our responses to critical needs of our times." To respond to these needs in the United States, we are urged to be active at national and local levels where policy decisions are made. Policy made in the United States affect the entire world and we need to let legislators know our concerns about the impact of their decisions. There are several ways that you as individuals or groups can effectively deliver messages to U.S. Senators and Representatives. We encourage you to sign up to receive action alerts from the Sisters of Mercy to become aware when critical timely advocacy is needed.
