2010-2011 Volunteer Reflections
Siobhan Dodds
St. Frances Cabrini Clinic
Detroit, MI
"I have learned that the amount needed to live a comfortable and happy life is much smaller than I had originally thought; simple living has been a life-giving experience."

Mike Grathwol
St. Joseph's/Candler SOURCE Program
Savannah, GA
"Although I work with a population challenged with physical, cognitive, and communicative disabilities, I have learned how much each person has to share and how much each person can accomplish if you rid yourself of expectations and work with patience."
Sarah Graves
St. Joseph Mercy Hospital
Guyana, South America
"I've heard the Guyanese say it over and over when facing adversity and suffering ... "God is in charge." Now, more than ever, I realize the truth of that statement as I live and serve in a different culture."

Kim Utz
Loaves and Fishes
Sacramento, CA
"This year for the first time in my life I have truly focused on being present in the moment; trying to let go of worries and stress about the past and the future. I think that this is something that I will definitely carry throughout the rest of my life because it has freed me from wasting energy about that which has passed or is yet to come and enabled me to enjoy and get the most out of what is going on right now. "

Greetings!
Mercy Volunteer Corps staff was blessed to host our volunteers on June 9-13 for their Transition Retreat. The volunteers had a great chance to reconnect with everyone while reflecting and sharing experiences from their past volunteer year. The extended weekend included many different sessions led by Sisters, Site Supervisors and alumni. We thank everyone who came out to support our volunteers! Below you will find some pictures from our retreat, as well as some year-end reflections from our volunteers.
During July we will not have an e-newsletter; we will be busy gearing up for the next group of volunteers and our orientation. Please look for our next A Moment with MVC in August where we will be introducing our new 2011-2012 volunteers!

Mercy Volunteer Corps' Mission Statement
In partnership with the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, lay women and men of Mercy Volunteer Corps (MVC), enter into relationship with people who are economically poor and marginalized. In a spirit of mutuality, volunteers cultivate mercy and justice in the world by embracing compassionate service, social justice, spirituality and a simple lifestyle in community.
