Racing season is over!

We are looking forward to celebrating the great season we have had at this year's award banquet and exchanging our many stories. There is still some great sailing to be had this year and feel free to sail over to the awards and make a weekend of it.

I would like to welcome Tracey Ruiz to our LOORG committee. Tracey has been active in this year's LOSHRS series and competed in the LO300 for the first time as a converted cruiser. Tracey also brings a wealth of marketing and promotional experience to our committee and will be assuming the role of Marketing Director. You will be hearing more from Tracey in future correspondences.

Skippers Plan Team Challenge

Congratulations to this year's Team Challenge winners.

The Xtreme Team from Port Credit Yacht Club is the winner of the Main Duck Team Challenge.

Team members were, Timorian - Fred Harding, IMXtreme- Joe MacDonald and Afterburn- Craig     , Xtreme Team is our first repeating champions.

The Cathedrals is the winner of the Scotch Bonnet Team Challenge from Cathedral Bluffs Yacht Club. Team members were: Stowaway- Owen Schneider and Midnight Express- Michael Bauer

Both champions will receive a cash donation on behalf of Skippers Plan Insurance towards their club's junior Sail Programs.

The Skippers Plan Team Challenge is held annually as part of the Lake Ontario 300 to create some good interclub rivalry and to raise money for Junior Learn to Sail Programs at participating clubs.
Since the inception of this race the Lake Ontario 300 has donated over $35,000.00 to Junior sailing on Lake Ontario through it's own resources and with the assistance of sponsors like Skippers Plan Insurance.
To make the Team Challenge work all corrected times for IRC team members are converted to a PRHF time and the boats are ranked in order to their overall place finish. Team members place finishes are added up to give the combined team score. Its a fun and easy way to declare a team champion who not only wins a nice keeper trophy to take back to their home club, but a cheque to donate to their clubs junior sailing. If the winning team's club does not have a junior sail program, they can simply allocate the funds to a nearby junior program or cause.

Lake Ontario Short-Handed Racing Series Update

We finished the 38th annual LOSHRS series the same way we started it - with a lot of enthusiasm, friendly competition and camaraderie and fun at the dock gathering parties.

The series consists of 6 races held at 4 times during the summer. Each was well attended with an average of 76 boats at the start line.

The Course Race - 70 boats

Youngstown 2-day event - 90 boats

100 Miler - 57 boats

Dalhousie 2-day event - 84 boats

We finished the series the past weekend with the Dalhousie 2 day event. There were 84 boats on the starting line, and we lucked in with the weather. The sail over and back was challenging as there were pockets with no or light wind. Saturday the light and variable winds made the race tricky, but all finished in time for the Dalhousie dock party and finished with an evening of camaraderie and revelry. On Sunday there was a change of wind direction from southwest and later came out of the east. Regardless, it was wonderful to be on the water.

The Dock gathering party was super with many thanks to Andrew McAllister (Water Colours 1) of ReMax Reality and Gary Bell (Bikini) who supplied a keg of Pilsner from Grand River Brewing.

In addition, Andrew gave each competitor a ReMax deck of playing cards & writing pen.

Thanks again to both Andrew and Gary for your generous support of LOSHRS.

We couldn't have asked for two better days of racing!!

A Hardy Congratulations to everyone who enjoyed this friendly and fun-filled series.

All in all 2012 - our 38th year - was another great success.
