Racing season is here!

Now that the boats are in the water and the masts are pointing in the right direction our ability to focus on this year's premier yacht races elevates to another level creating the spring excitement we all cherish.

There are many new features to our races this year, which will be announced over the next few weeks. In the meantime, our popular Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Guide has been published and is currently being distributed to clubs throughout the lake as well as Chandlery's and Sail Lofts. This book is well prepared and full of useful information for the serious racer and the cruiser racer. Now that the first races are upon us, feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you have.

Good luck with prepping your boats, we look forward to seeing you on the water.

Sincerely,
Darren Gornall
Chair, Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Group

21 days to the start of offshore racing

June 1st is the Coolest Race on the Lake - Susan Hood Trophy Race

If you haven't signed up for this year's Susan Hood Trophy Race, do it now. It's heating up to be another great race and with this year's weather it could be a summer breeze or a winter freeze, which is also exciting.

So far we have over 50 yachts registered from over 17 yacht clubs, which is well ahead of last year at this time.

There are some exciting divisions shaping up, which will only get better as we get closer to the start. With over 14 boats registered in IRC 1&2 we are anticipating a tight race especially with IRC 2 with our defending Champ. The non-flying sails - Division 1 is currently the largest division, which will also be a tight race and includes a couple boats coming down from Newcastle Yacht Club. To check out the current scratch sheets follow this link.

Sperry Skipper Shirts will be handed out at PCYC prior to the race and for skippers who cannot make it we will have them available at the post race party. There are limited numbers, so sign up early.

Please check our registration website for the necessary on-line Crew List and the safety review card. Yacht without a completed crew list are not qualified to compete; please use the on-line Crew List on Yacht Scoring to the paper version for last minute changes.

The Susan Hood Trophy Race has a Facebook page and we are encouraging everyone to join up and post your action shots from throughout the race or create some pre-race chatter.

Early registration draw for the Lake Ontario 300 Challenge

Get registered by June 1st and qualify for a draw for a great sailing tool.

All yachts registered for this year's Lake Ontario 300 Challenge by June 1st will qualify to win an exciting Sailing GPS system manufactured by Sailtimer Inc.

Valued at $400.00, this product has proven to be an excellent tool navigating offshore races.

Register here!

The winning boat name will be drawn at the Sperry Top-Sider Post Race Reception for the Susan Hood Trophy Race .
Sailing GPS

The Sailing GPS is unique in realizing that sailboats tack to their destination, which affects the distance and travel time.  If standard GPS chartplotters don't know how far your tacking route is, how can they calculate the ETA correctly?  Fortunately, The Sailing GPS solves this problem.  It accounts for sailboat tacking when calculating optimal routes, distances and Tacking Time to Destination.

Skipper/Crew Evening a great success!

On May 2nd, we held the first Skipper/Crew reception. It was a huge success and saw quite a few boats get hooked up with new crew for the upcoming offshore races. A special thanks to True North Yachts for sponsoring this evening and for their ongoing support of this event.
