Toronto International Boat Show - A huge success!

This year's Boat Show was a huge success for all three events represented by the Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Group. There were quite a few registrations completed at the booth as well as many who signed up online during the show. It was exciting for all representatives at the show to talk to the many new boats looking to join in this year. It seemed like offshore racing is a consideration of many new boat owners!

First time interest is coming from Port Hope, Kingston, Georgian Bay, Lake Michigan and a few ports south of the boarder. With some of the new fast boats looking to join the race this year it will create lots of excitement.

To Date:

  • There are 30 boats entered in the Lake Ontario 300, including some past champions, which is a high number for this time of year
  • There are 25 boats registered for the Susan Hood, Trophy Race which is also a record high for this time of year
  • There are currently over 40 registered for the Lake Ontario Short Handed Racing Series, all of who will receive their T-shirt at the first race. (how could we forget...)

Sincerely,
Darren Gornall
Chair, Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Group

Early Registration Specials

Did you know that if you are one of the many boats who race the Susan Hood Trophy Race, The LOSHRS and the Lake Ontario 300; you could save over $100.00 this year by registering prior to the early bird cut-off date. That's a great saving and certainly buys a few flares.

For those registering before January 31st, you also get the added bonus of a Canadian Yachting magazine subscription (LO300) and a GAM on Yachting subscription (LOSHRS).

Both the LO300 and the Susan Hood Trophy Race are on yachtscoring and LOSHRS are on e-RegisterNow. We are working to provide one registration system that allows you to register for all 3 events, but it takes time.

Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Guide

We are getting close to the final preparations for this year's Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Guide and every year we are finding new information that relates to offshore racing on Lake Ontario making this booklet a must read for everyone.

If you know of an offshore race on Lake Ontario that we may have missed in our Calendar, please email Ian McAllister.

If you are an advertiser looking to place an ad, please email Brian Townsend.

If you feel you have an interesting article or would like to see something in this year's guide, please send it to Jonathan Vinden.

Look for your guide to be delivered to your club, by one of our volunteers in early spring.

New for 2012!

The Sperry Top-Sider IRC Trophy

Sperry Top-Sider has agreed to put up another prestigious trophy for the overall IRC winner of this year's race. Nothing will replace the Sperry Cup but in response to the growing IRC fleet and the need for a separate overall IRC Champion, we feel this is an excellent addition to our trophy case and certainly is in stride with Sperry Top-Siders commitment to developing champions in yacht racing.

The trophy is currently in the design stage and we will be previewing it prior to this year's race.

Off-Season Presentations

This year, we did not embark on a schedule of planned off-season presentations, as they have become a little repetitive for the clubs we have attended in the past. We have a modified version of this presentation that is pretty well ready to go. If you would like to get a presentation on offshore racing at your club or event, please contact either Darren Gornall or Brian Townsend

Sponsorship!

We now have a combined sponsorship committee that has produced an excellent sponsorship program combining all three events. We areaggressive promoting our ability to provide quality exposure opportunities to a wide variety of companies. Sponsors fill a very important role as we strive to deliver world class races without raising registration fee's dramatically. The various events within our races provide a quality experience and our thanks go to all our sponsors for their support.

If you know of a company that could benefit from an association with one or all our races and the associated demographics, please feel free to contact one of our committee members.

The sponsorship committee is composed of :
