"Knockers Club" Preview Party (Friday night before the House Tour - 7 pm to 9 pm)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There has not been an art exhibit in the original Knockers Club, Solon Borglum's studio, Wilton, since Solon died in 1922. The last exhibit took place in the late summer of 1921, 91 years ago. The year following, artists Hutchens and Brinley had showings at their homes but the rest of the group was anchorless and bereft without Solon's leadership. This year, it happens that various connections, research and even friendships have brought us to a crossroads where a number of collectors, relatives of the artists, and institutions are able and willing to share period art by the original Silvermine Group of Artists. The fact that this retrospective is in the original studio is unprecedented. We do not know if this will ever happen again. Many of us have worked for months putting this together and the homeowner's involvement has been exceptional.
Our "Brigadoon moment" is not meant to overshadow the house tour which will also visit the studio the next day but for those for whom the original Silvermine Group of Artists is a passion, the Preview Party will offer a very special evening. You will have two hours to look at what Silvermine produced: lit, professionally hung in the original structure, with a glass of wine in hand, with friends, collectors and art professionals. Some art will be for sale.
To make a reservation for the Preview Party contact Leigh at 203-847-2721.  Attendance is limited to sixty tickets and only twenty are presently available. The ticket is $100. Invitations will go out in about a week's time to those on the reservation list. Unlike the house tour, the Preview Party will not be a public offering. A jitney will run from the Silvermine Arts Center (Guild) parking lot and the SAC has kindly offered to keep their galleries open until 8 pm to accommodate patrons.
The following artists will be represented: Bernhard Gutmann, Frederick C. Yohn, Clara Davidson, Hamilton Hamilton, Helen Hamilton, Augustus Daggy, Johnny Gruelle, D. Putnam Brinley, Carl Schmitt, Murray Mackay, Harry Townsend, Charles Reiffel, Leo Dorn, Howard Hildebrandt, George Picknell, Charles Shackleton, E. Maxwell Albert (father), David Robinson, Carroll Holliday, Addison Millar, Henry Salem Hubbell, Edmund C. Asche, Dorothy Byard, Solon Borglum, Emma Borglum, Harry Townsend, Frank T. Hutchens, Tony Balcom, and others.
Our Mission
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The mission of the Norwalk Association of Silvermine Homeowners (NASH) is to provide a voice for Silvermine as a historic, cultural and natural resource. We support a vision of a rural neighborhood within whose boundaries change can continue to occur while the feeling of community and the "sense of place" remain strong, the important historic structures are preserved, and the existing biodiversity, in all its richness, is not compromised.
