Notice of Public Information Meeting*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00718, which carries Route 15 (Merritt Parkway) over the Silvermine River, in the city of Norwalk. The meeting will be held on January 19, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., in Room A330 of the Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut. In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held on January 26,2011 at the same time and place.
Bridge No. 00718 is a three-span structure built in 1958, which carries two lanes of traffic in each direction over the Silvermine River. The total bridge length is 203 feet, and the total northbound and southbound width is 65.5 feet. The bridge is situated approximately  3/4 mile west of the U.S. Route 7 and Route 15 interchange and 50 feet north of the historic bridge carrying Route 15 over Silvermine Avenue.
Because Bridge No. 00718 was reconstructed after the 1955 flood, it is not regarded as contributing to the historical significance of the Merritt Parkway, and as such is not included in the Connecticut Historic Bridge Inventory. The bridge has been identified as having a deficient deck, which must be rebuilt.
Construction will be done in stages using night-time off-peak lane closures, while leaving one lane open in each direction. During the day, two lanes of travel in each direction will be maintained.
There are no private property impacts anticipated due to the State's extensive right-of way along Route 15. The estimated construction cost for this project is $2,300,000. Construction is expected to begin in the Spring of 2012 and be completed by the Fall of 2012.
*Plans will be available for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the Department's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Ms. Mary E. Baker at (860) 594-3402 or (860) 563-9375 to make an appointment. All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discllss the project with Depaliment personnel.
Whether it's the Fire Department, Police Department or an ambulance, the time wasted trying to locate a street address or a fire hydrant could be just that, a matter of life or death.
Make certain your house address is visible and, if the fire hydrant in your area is buried in mounds of snow, get your neighbors together to dig it out!
There is a critical four to six minute window for medical emergencies such as heart attack or stoke victims. The same time frame applies to a fire. A room and contents fire can reach flashover stage, when all combustibles within the room can ignite within four to six minutes; so access to your fire hydrant is critical
