Schools, both public and private, community centers, preschool and after-school programs or other nonprofit organizations in Collier or South Lee counties that have a library, book nook or a shared reading environment for children are invited to apply for a grant through the non-profit K is for Kids Foundation.
Awards are based upon student need and a needs assessment of the library's collection.
If an organization or school is ineligible for a grant, they may ask to participate in the Foundation's free consultation program on alternative ways to raise books, enlist community and business support to help fill their needs and/or how to conduct their own books drives, such as the Bring a Book, Bring a Friend Fun'raisers.
The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Feb. 1. Recipients will be notified by the end of February, with grants to be distributed in mid-March.
Grants include donations of new or gently used books raised by the Foundation during its fun'raising season, and shopping sprees along "booksellers' row" at Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million and Borders in Naples.
To apply for library grant assistance, visit KisforKids.org, click on the "Grants" tab, print and complete the form, then fax it 239.431.6882.
