BY THE NUMBERS
365 different people volunteered their time to help ODB during the first 6-months of 2012.

Looking at it from a different angle, it takes an average of
25-people each day to help us continue to do what we do.

We graciously thank all
Our Daily Bread Volunteers.

If you haven't yet had the opportunity and want more information on volunteering for ODB, please go to our web site.

MILLIE BELL RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP
Millie Bell, Executive Director of Our Daily Bread has been selected to receive the Dallas Morning News Charities Executive Director scholarship for 2012.
Starting in the fall, this  year-long program at SMU, conducted by the Center for Nonprofit Management, focuses on leadership for nonprofit organizations and consists of 12 different courses with classes once a week. This is the first time the Dallas Morning News has awarded this scholarship.

On behalf of all those associated with Our Daily Bread, we congratulate Millie on this award.

SOCK IT TO US.... PLEASE
Our greatest call for warm, heavy cotton socks is when the temperatures drop and the cold winds blow. Requests for them come in year around, however, especially when it's raining. Unfortunately, our present supply of warm socks is low and we're calling for help. Any style, any brand, any size will do....the only requirement is, they must be new.

Drop off at Our Daily Bread
between 10:30 and 1:30 any weekday.
Thank you.

BIGOWL'S AUTO RESCUE SERVICE SUPPORTS OUR DAILY BREAD
From now until Veteran's Day, for every service call and car repair they make, BigOwl's Auto Rescue Service will donate $5.00 to Our Daily Bread, if specified as a customer preference.

The two organizations they are supporting in their current Thank You Campaign are Families for Effective Autism Treatment of North Texas (FEAT-NT)  and Our Daily Bread.
BigOwl's is a mobile auto repair service. Their service vehicles are self-contained repair garages on wheels. According to BigOwl's Manager, Alfonso Willis (Big Al), BigOwl's Auto Rescue offers high quality work at low prices and all repairs are covered with a 12 month guarantee. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY SPOTLIGHT
Our Daily Bread could not exist were it not for the generous contribution of time given so generously by volunteers. Be it food and meal preparation, local food pickups, fundraising, client services or whatever the need or occasion, there are people willing to serve.

Kitchen Support - Food Prep
Duties consist of assisting in the preparation of meals, chopping food, storing food in pantry and refrigerator, serving meals, general assistance and clean up.
Time commitment 4 hours 9:30am-1:30pm
Register/sign up to volunteer by using Volunteer Matters.

FREE FARMERS MARKET

When in-kind donations are perishable and are received in greater quantity than can be used in the kitchen, they are placed on tables in a "farmers market" type of arrangement for our clients to select what they can use. Items typically are; fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, assorted bent or crushed packaging of various foods and bread products. This program is well received by those clients who have the means for food preparation.
A CALL FOR WATER

The hot summer is here again and with it, the need for more drinking water.  Last year ODB supporters and volunteers so generously donated enough bottled water in early summer to sustain us during the entire hot summer and we are deeply appreciative of their support.
Although this summer hasn't been as hot as last year, it is still pretty hot and with the heat our need for bottled water rises dramatically.   We include bottles of water in our weekend snack packs as well as distribute bottles of water on hot days for our clients to take with them.  Since we serve 150 to 200 meals every day, each week we go through dozens of cases of water.

At the Kiwanis 4th of July Fireworks Celebration, Serve Denton collected bottled water to be distributed to Our Daily Bread, Salvation Army, Vision Ministries, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Charities.   In addition, we received a very generous water donation from the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Sanger.

We are so grateful for all the help we receive.  However, we still need more water. If you are willing to donate water, please bring it to Our Daily Bread during our hours of operations.  This could also be a great project for church or Boys Scout groups.

Our thanks for whatever you can do.
