Yo!

It's been an interesting week.  Yesterday's earthquake in Indonesia stirred though didn't quite shake us in Bangalore. And the $1 billion acquisition of Instagram by Facebook certainly shook up the social media world.  Pinterest continues to race ahead in the social media stakes.  To be honest, though I signed up, I am unsure of what to do there.  Like Google+ it seems a bit lonely.

On our conferences front we've added some interesting speakers for the Great Indian Marketing Summit, Chennai - Karthik Srinivasan, (@beastoftraal), AVP - Corporate Communication, Flipkart, Haroon Bijli, Head of Online, TCS and the unmatchable Nakul Shenoy of Beyond Magic who is an ace mindreader and also a patent-holding UI designer.  More confirmations coming in.  Do register online for the Great Indian Marketing Summit, 2012, Chennai it's Rs 3500, and apart from practitioner insights you will receive a marketing plan template and learn how to optimize your own.

And as a special favour to me, could you please, please, share this with your colleagues and friends in Chennai.  Much appreciated.

Happy Reading!

Walking Like Senna

By Tim Leberecht
Senna (legendary Brazilian Formula One race driver) was a one-of-a-kind rebel, and he epitomizes the allure of the contrarian way of doing things your way: walk when others run, stay silent when others talk, be absent when others pursue presence by all means, disappear when others enter.

Maybe that's the ultimate differentiator in our fast-moving, over-loaded, hyper-charged, and ultra-saturated markets, for brands, companies, organizations, and leaders alike: to determine that it's game over before it has even begun. Reclusiveness as the ultimate exclusivity. And maybe that is the very difference between being smart and being wise:

How You Can Enjoy the Benefits of Increasing Your Blogging Output

By Bostjan Spetic - Content Marketing Institute

This is a story of a CEO who discovered the benefits of everyday blogging.

"Through my recent experiences, I've learned that my blogging more regularly has brought more visitors to my blog and has raised my profile in my industry; in other words, I am becoming more influential. Honestly, I didn't expect that the simple decision to update my blog daily would bring such great and rewarding results so fast."

How can one tell that their readership and influence are growing? There were a few metrics available to keep track of this. For example, Klout score - an assessment of the breadth and strength of a user's online influence - This CEO blogger's score rocketed from 20 to almost 50 in a 4 week period. In the same period, Google Analytics showed that the blog had increased its visitors 10-fold, compared to the preceding four weeks. And those visitors were now spending an average of two minutes reading my blog posts (depending on their topic and length, of course).

Here are some useful tips to improve your blogging output...

Navigating the Client/Agency Relationship

By Hilton Barbour
In our industry fewer subjects attract more debate, or blog ink, than the one of agency and client relationships. It is a hoary old chestnut that justifiably gets pulled out often. Gauging by the amount of ink about the resignation and review of business, or the tenures of CMO's, it remains more akin to summer romances than life-long marriages. But, if wedded bliss is your aspiration it is not unheard of. My alma mater Ogilvy has retained IBM and American Express for decades. It's not impossible, it has just gotten harder.

Here are some tips on navigating these rough waters...
